Can AA work if you can only make one meeting a week?

Any recovery method can work if you are motivated. Motivation is the key.

Welcome back Sax
I really believe we get out of our recovery what we put into it, you know?

Do you think it's enough?

I agree with Anna that anything can work - if you really work it.

I don't think we have last chances - not we're alive - but I really hope you can make this your year

Anything can work as long as you are more motivated to NOT drink more than you are motivated TO drink. Whatever helps get you there and keep you there is worthwhile.

I think so! As long as you don't drink!

You could try to make it here and places like it instead.
All the meetings in the world won't do any good unless you're determined to hang in there.

12 step meetings aren't magic, they aren't what makes people recover. Determination to stop using and then work on building a purposeful life is what makes people recover.

You can definitely work the AA program and recover while only attending one meeting a week.

I guess it all depends on you. I have to go to several a week and talk to my sponser frequently. If I don't I spend too much time "in my head."

But that's just me.

God bless.

1 meeting a week, 7 meetings a week, you'll stay sober if you want to. I attend 3, 4 meetings a week. The 1st reason I stay sober is because I tell myself no every time I get the urge. Got my 18 month chip 2 hours ago.

Of course it can work. AA is not about how many meetings someone attends. It's about having a spiritual awakening as the result of the 12 Steps that emphatically alters my perception of life and the way I relate to it. Many solid AA members are dedicated to a home group that meets once a week.

Saxony, you've been around here long enough to get some real experience with trying to stay sober by doing what you're doing. Maybe it's time to consider doing something that's been successful for many others.
