I attended my first AA meeting yesterday

As promised I finally attended my first AA meeting last night. I have to admit I did a little crying when I told my story but I felt better. I already have a sponsor and he seems like a great guy. Another one tonight. It is right in the middle of our weekly date night with the wife but she supports me and will find something to do for an hour while I attend. So today is day one!!

Good for you....Gotta sponsor on your first night...I'm impressed......It took me two days. He started out as my temporary sponsor...His suggestion...So if it didn't work out there wouldn't be any hard feelings....Made sense. And he is still my sponsor today.

I did not get any big book just a packet of information that I have not completely gone through. Maybe sponsor was a bit strong but the guy gave me his card and I have already texted him several questions and he has been very helpful.

Good for you!

So far the instructions on pages 1-164 of the Big Book have worked pretty darn good for me.

Nice job getting a sponsor. I had one guy my first 3 months and then switched as I started to get a feel of what I needed from my own program. I saw my original sponsor Friday night for the first time in about 6 months and it was great giving him a big hug. He even wants to give me my 1 year coin next month.

It will be great if this sponsor is someone that works for you in the long run. If at some point you feel it doesn't after a while it's ok to switch. That's very normal.

That is awesome! Soon you will be looking forward to going to meetings. And get that Big Book. You can usually pick them at the meetings pretty cheap.

God bless.

Hi Duke10,

Glad to hear you made it to a meeting and cried. I think crying is so theuraputic.
I hope this doesn't sound sexist but I respect men that cry.

Good on you Duke10

Very glad you went, Duke & that it was helpful for you! When I first went I was so choked up I couldn't speak at all - so you did good.

About to leave for my second. I already feel withdrawal but maybe it is just nerves. Thank you for all your support. Much harder then I thought.
