It is my AS's birthday today. He has been coming to visit on and off for a while, but the last time he was very jittery and rude, so I just stop contact again.

I didn't send him any Christmas wishes, but want to send him a text for his birthday.

What I would like to say is this: Happy Birthday, I pray that this will be the year when you get tired of living in a constant fog and claim your life back.

What I should probably say is just Happy Birthday? Right?

(((Sunshine))) - as a recovering addict, and having loved ones who are addicts, I understand what you want to say - I really do. However, the RA in me, as long as I was still using, would have just ignored the part after "Happy Birthday" or used it as a good way to start an argument.

I told my XABF#3, since he was still using, "Happy Birthday" and "love you" and that was it. Yeah, I still loved him, as a person, and I knew anything else would fall on deaf ears.
