Hello,
I was searching the web about how to battle some of the withdrawal pangs I have been dealing with and happened uppon this website, after reading some of the threads here I felt at home.
Im 33 years old and live in Iceland, so if my grammar is not correct I appologise.
I have been a heavy drinker for 13 years and it all began as self medication. I was, and still am, battling social anxiety and depression and at first the alcohol helped me with that problem by calming me down and cheering me up. For years this was my remedy and I found myself needing to drink more and more as time went by.
I wont bore you with more details, In short I got addicted to the stuff.
I stoped drinking 27. of november this year so its about a month now with no alcohol and this is my first attempt to quit. I hope that by joining you guys in this struggle that I am bettering my chances of staying sober.
Thats it for now and Merry christmas.

No problems reading you loud and clear, Frikki.
We're so happy to have you here with us. I felt instantly at home when I found SR during some of the darkest days of my life.
I was just like you - used it to cheer myself up, calm myself down, and enjoy life more. Sad how it ended up doing the exact opposite. In the end, I couldn't make a move without it - I found myself in a terrible trap. This won't happen to you, Frikki. We're here to listen and help - be proud you've decided to end the insanity.

Welcome!
I know that many of us here, me included, began drinking in an attempt to self-medicate anxiety and depression. As you said, the hook is that it works for a little while, but then one day we wake up and realize we have lost control.
I'm glad you found us and congratulations on your month sober!

Welcome Frikki. Alcohol did the same for me in the beginning too. Then I crossed that line into the addiction and it never worked the same again. You are in a good place here. Tons of great people fighting a common enemy.
Congrats on the 30 days!
God bless

Welcome to SR, Frikki! Congratulations on 33 days of sobriety! That is quite a feat. I just joined 4 days ago and the people here at SR have been a tremendous help.
