Reboot in 2012

I've been sick with a cold/flu for almost a week now. I have also began drinking again. I went from Kraken Rum back to beer.

I want 2012 to be a "reboot" for me. I want to stop drinking, stop spending on stupid stuff, vigorously attack our personal debt, and simplify my life.

I kicked it off with posting a rifle for sale that I never use, and planning on donating some stuff. I'm pouring out the rum, and giving away the beer once I feel like getting out.

I have a killer headache and head congestion and I know that the cons outweigh the pros on drinking. I thought about my former FD Captain this week. He recently passed away from kidney and heart complications. He was a hard-livin', hard-drinkin' guy for decided. He died at the age of 60. I miss him terribly.

I also thought of the other fellow who worked with us for years. He is now retired, and I saw him at the funeral, drunker than a bicycle. I feel a bit sad just typing that.

I'm ready for a reboot.

'Now' is always a good time to quit the drink, it just at worth it. (I'm at 3 months sober and my brain does feel as if it was rebooted.)
I can very much relate to the spending as well, it's HARD for me to leave a store without buying some misc. thing I'll probably use once then lose. Make sure you make the sale of that rifle legit, so if they go and do something stupid it won't be you getting your door kicked in by the cops.
Good Luck and sorry about your friend.

Like I said elsewhere 2012 is still a nebulous concept right now - it's still the infamous alcoholic 'tomorrow'....

why not reboot today fdm?

It's good to have sober goals, but goals with out a plan are more like a dream. So what's your action plan to get and stay sober? AA or something else?

Reboot is a good concept.

I hit the reset button in January of 2011.

Glad you've made the decision, Fdm! Just think of how you'll feel next year at this time!

Like the others said, it's better to start here and now...... a few more drunks never does us any good, so take hold of your motivation and go for it!

I concur and can only say: Don't put off for tomorrow what you CAN get done today.

I also agree with everyone. Make today the day. Heck if I had gone with the idea originally to stop drinking on "such and such a day" well, then I'd still be drowning my feelings in gin, vodka and cheap wine.
Instead now I'm 13 days sober, all because I came here one day and someone said the same to me. Poured the gin down the sink.
Why not put today as day 1?

Today would make a great first day. Very easy to remember...the day after Christmas.
If today is your day one you will already have a week done when 2012 rolls around. I agree with the other posts. Today is the day to start.
Good luck!

I'm humbled. Read my post in the "I don't want to stop" thread about my epiphany on beer and rum.

Lol Fdm, I just got the same advice from someone about traveling/living in India "You don't need advice. Just get there." True for so many things! Kudos again for a fantastic decision!

Thanks. Day 2. I had the strangest dream last night. Aaron Rodgers was my best friend. Whenever I don't drink, I have lucid dreams like this.

Aaron Rogers would be a heck of a best friend. He would show you his college football rejection letters; I read that he only shares them with his closest.

Well done on your resolve and action!!

Your phrase "drunker than a bicycle" made me laugh out loud; I wish you the very best in your sane and healthy future! which starts right now.
