Hello Everyone: Newcomer's First Post
Hello Everyone!
Just thought I'd say hello, having signed up this morning. Having separated, a couple of years ago from a violent alcoholic and coke-addict, it became clear that although I'd always been the one to hold everything together in terms of family (I've got two teenage daughters), work (I'm a University Professor) and friends, my drinking was also problematic and it was time for me to take charge.
A good friend introduced me to AA three months ago and I'm working the steps with a Sponsor. All's going well, I'm feeling hugely better in myself and about myself and I'm finally taking responsibility for my part in all the bad stuff me and my kids have been through over the past few years. It's easy, when you're living with someone whose life and personality is a total carcrash to become the sainted martyr. It's a lot harder to look at your own insecurities, selfishness, inconsiderate behaviour and dishonesty. But I'm doing that now, and the payoff's immeasurably greater than anything that comes in a glass.
I discovered this site through googling for information about recovery and I have to say it's fantastic. I'm really looking forward to participating. And would like to wish everyone here a really happy, and peaceful, holiday season.
