Help with backing out of party last min??

So my " Office X-Mas party" is tomorrow...cocktails at my managers house..then dinner at a place. Everyone's talking about how last year ( I'm new here) they got wasted, so on..so forth.....I just don't want to be around it at day 6..truly, but I already said I'm going before starting the new journey again..any thoughts on this....I'm one of many, and sure I won't be missed, but also dont wanna be rude..

Then just say, "I'm sorry, but something has come up and I won't be able to attend. Have a wonderful holiday and I look forward to going next Christmas."

Rude? No.

You have been invited to a party. You have the option to decline. It is not rude to make that choice and voice it politely.

Now, you can tell a little white lie or tell them you are six days into recovery for alcohol addiction and you are worried that attending the party will lead you to relapse.

And even if it was rude, your recovery comes first.

Nah...make it sincere and believable and no one will even think twice.

Don't let your AV trick you into going - cause I can just hear the AV talking...

"Go to the party, have a few drinks, it's Christmas, you're new to the company so you've got to fit in with these people...blah blah blah"

Don't listen to it.

Jedi - shame you just came down with the horrible stomach virus. No one really wants you to be around with that thing so close to the Holidays - the vomiting the diarrhea

best you go home and stay in bed - it will be best for everyone.

just do it and don't worry. You are going to be happy in the long run. The reason I suggested the stomach virus is that no one is going to WANT to hear the details of your lower gastric upset.

and it is going around here in NJ...one of my med students gave it to me...i feel soooo icky.

That already feeling bad, and the gut feelings, see, the symptoms are already starting and you sure don't want to make it worse right? Get a few months sober whatever it takes and then worry about dealing with all this next year. In the meantime do whatever it takes, it takes whatever you do to stay sober.

Good for you for taking care of your sobriety first!!

Give yourself a nice reward like: a long nap, a long walk, a slice of cheesecake, etc. so you won't feel like you missed out on a treat.

And no it is not one bit rude to back out of an invite to a big group party - a dinner party where you are planned for would be another story.

and of course you can make a "miraculous recovery" by Monday morning and go into work looking "thin" and fit.... no one would 2nd guess you on it.

I remember being 4-5 days sober and going to a funeral repast...I tucked a bag of herbal teabags in my purse and told everyone I was just recovering from "the flu"

Sooo

I missed the party and the world is still spinning, had a nice , quite, comfortable, sober night at home, rented a few movies. Now DAY 7...One week. I suffer from high Blood pressure, last week at this time it was through the roof, dangerous. Today, after one week without booz, not only is it normal, it's low..alcohol really does effect our bodies in a bad way folks..feels better to feel better.
