sobriety, day 6
sobriety, day 6
hello. i am new to this forum. have found some great advice and inspirational posts. my question is: how do i battle the depression i am feeling from being sober? i know i am still in the process of detoxing, but what can i do to bring myself up a little? i am recovering from alcohol, norco, and weed.
the first few days were easier for me. now i am slowly feeling more sick & more tired.

Six days is very early in recovery. I'd give yourself some more time before thinking something's wrong. Eat good food, enough fluids, adequate rest, and vitamins can help too. It took me a few weeks to start feeling 'normal' and better. But if you start feeling worse please do see your doctor.
Welcome brokenopen!
A lot of people, myself included, feel tired and unmotivated when they stop drinking. It definitely took some time for things to normalize for me.
Also, I was used to all the ups and downs of alcohol, so life felt a little flat at first. I wouldn't hesitate to talk to someone, though...... it might help you to sort things out.
Glad you're here!

Hi brokenopen
I think it depends a lot whether you were depressed before or whether this started after you stopped drinking.
If you're concerned, or it's something with a long history it's probably best to see your Dr.
If it's a recent thing, chances are it's the normal depression a lot of us get in early recovery?
Maybe a little light exercise (even a walk around the block or something) could help?

thanks everyone for the advice you have given me so far.
and @artsoul, what you said about feeling "flat", i think that is exactly how i am feeling. almost hazy and disconnected. i will be trying the light exercise.
i did feel much depression while using, as well.
but, i do not have medical insurance or a doctor..

I'm not American, but there seems to be a growing number of free or low cost clinics around, brokenopen if you did decide you needed some professional advice.

I too remember feeling "flat." That is a very good explaination. Keep visiting the boards, keep sharing, remember this feeling will not last forever. Talk to someone if you can, could you try an AA or NA meeting?
