hello all,
it's been a while since i've posted here, but i did promise to check-in at my half a year mark.
well, i wish i was 100% alcohol-free... however in the last two months i had 4 drinks... on separate occasions and never more than a drink (half a glass of wine, one shot of sake, etc.)
guess one could say i should reset my counter after one sip... i don't really look at this way.
last year at this point i would've spent half a year with let's see... about 180 days times average of 5 drinks a day = 900 drinks. i'd say the improvement is pretty remarkable.
to top that off:
- i'm getting great reviews at my job, no longer do i try to i hide from the world because i have a hangover (almost daily). i can actually get things done. and do them well.
- lost about 60 lbs
- my cholesterol is within range (was almost 3x the norm)
- my blood pressure is normal again (had to take medication for 2 months)
- fatty liver and elevated enzymes are gone
all in all my health is where it should be, my life is where it should be and if i make it one year now... even with another four drinks along the way, hey, i'll take it. i feel that alcohol has no hold over me anymore, i don't think about it, i don't try to purposely avoid it, doesn't bother me to see others drink. i realize the ride is not over, but i look at it as a bad break-up... it hurts when it's just over, but then you move one and after some time you look back at the whole situation in a very different light.

Congratulations on 6 months! It's tremendous that you've seen such positive improvements in your health.
I'm on Day 29. Initially I told myself to make it to 30 days and then re-evaluate. I can't say that I don't miss a drink every so often (especially when dining out), but it has been so freeing to not be obsessed with drinking and then hiding that drinking from my wife and friends.
Thanks for the post. It helps me immensely to read of the achievements of those ahead of me!

i promise you that you are not really missing anything... and i was always the first one to order some nice wine with dinner (i couldn't fathom having steak without some wine). thankfully it seems silly now, the steak tastes just as good, if not better, without any alcohol.
