I did it..

I made it through Thanksgiving Day with all the family sober... I woke up this morning, and thought I really would like to drink, and I probably will. I worked out before we headed to the in-laws house, and I felt a little more clear headed about not drinking. We got there, and instantly was bombarded with "what kind of drink do you want?" I just said "I'm good", I grabbed a diet coke and 9 hours later I still have not touched a drop of alcohol! Success, I think yes. I had a lot of talk at the beginning of the day with advice from people, "its a special occasion, its ok to drink once in a while" and I replied, I don't drink like that though, so once in a while won't work for me. After awhile everyone took a clue and dropped it. I am so glad I stayed strong! After dinner, I was full of energy and my loved ones were well you know how it is after drinking all day and eating a big meal. I am so happy that I can do this, and I am not passing out on Thanksgiving, and I could drive my family home!!!!!! Not to toot my own horn, but I am so excited I had to tell someone!!

Congratulations! Thanksgiving was my first day of sobriety! I know exactly how you feel! When you wake up remember how you felt and do it again!

Sounds like a perfect day. Glad you enjoyed it and stayed sober. It's amazing how much fun and love we miss when our noses are buried in a bottle.

Awesome.

The minute I walked in my sons girlfriends parents house, my son had an empty sitting on the table in front of him. My heart immediately sank for some reason. I don't think it was 'seeing' the beer but the thought of the pressure behind it. Thinking...Oh No...here we go...Well, I wasn't even asked once if I wanted anything but iced tea. So it was a good afternoon...

Glad you were successfull...it can be a very trying time.
