Stayin home for Thanksgiving

Well I finally made up my mind. I couldnt decided if I was going to my fathers house or not.I really wanted to see my small family but its just to many triggers there.

So I made the phone call and broke the news to my stepmother,I am blessed to have a supportive family . So of course she understood and is going to make a huge to go bag for me. And one of my step sisters will drop it off on there way home.

I am so happy I still get to have that family meal even if its not there . So for all those that might struggle on this holiday , make sure you have a plan for cravings .

And everyone have a beautiful sober Thanksgiving

I too am staying home and just a FYI most states have Alkathons where there is lots of other recovering people AA/NA meetings and lots of food. I live in Wa state and there are a few different ones. So there is no need for me to be alone unless of course I choose to be. Happy Thanksgiving all

I'm staying home, too. Too much temptation. I used to stay home and drink myself into a stupor, or do it at someone's home.

Good football on, a day of rest and no drinking! Can't beat it.

Much, much respect for you who choose to guard your young sobriety during the upcoming holiday. Forseeing the danger and responding proactively are winner moves, y'all.

Solid stuff...thanks for your example.

Inda that is awesome.

It's refreshing to see that you and so many others have a plan for the holidays. Many times people will not know what to do or how to handle that situation. Sounds like you got it together.

I with Ranger, much respect. Go to any length to stay sober.

I was supposed to be on vacation over Tgiving but will be home instead. Daughters will be with their dad that day so I'll have the house to myself. Just me and the dogs. A good day for long dog walks.

I won't be spending it alone, I'll be with the dogs.

Thanks to everyone who posted I have been feeling pretty bummed about spending holiday's alone. I know I am not alone but with out my loved ones around. Maybe some day I will hit the lottery so I can fly home whenever I want. I hate hate hate having to depend on my Dad for a plane ticket and he only wants to buy it for a visit in June. At least I get home once a year but I have almost 8 years sober so its not like I am afraid of relapsing per se I am just lonely for my family and they just don't get it. Anyway it could always be worse.

worth repeating. Inda, your family sounds awesome in their support for you. that's a good foundation to build on for future holidays too.
