7 Days
7 Days
After many false starts I have finally made it 7 days sober. The week itself was the easiest by far of my many starts. Went to meetings almost every day, met some great people and generally enjoyed being sober. Today though its hit me like a ton of bricks. Ive been having some financial difficulties and problems at work (surprisingly non alcohol related) and I woke up wayyy on the wrong side of the bed. Since my car is in the shop there's not a meeting I can make it to today. GRRRRRRR
Hi ddrayer,
Thanks for the update - I am glad to hear that you are back to being sober. Yeah, the problems are hard to handle sober, but they are a lot harder to handle while drinking. Take care and let us know how things go!

1) At least you woke up
2) You woke up with a clear head and sober and not feeling like junk.
3) You have a roof over your head
4) You have the internet to access online help sites, etc.
Calm down, look at the positives in your life, and be damn proud of what you're doing for your life and health. When you sit there and "GRRRRRRRR" all the time, you're just making life far more complicated than it should be.
Take a walk outside and enjoy nature.
Ger: thank you for your kind words. Yes I know my life is actually really blessed. I spend a lot of time (should spend more) thanking god for the opportunities in my life. It was just one of those itchy days where everything was rubbing me wrong. Back on a positive foot today. I have to be honest. After 8 days I thought I would be feeling more energetic and happier. I am in a fine mood today but it is only 2:30 and I feel like I could sleep for 12 hours straight. Excited for an AA meeting tonight. Getting to the place where I actually enjoy them and look forward to them.

Great job on 8 days .
I saw someone in the October thread post this and ever since then I've clinged onto it because it rings true with recovering from alcoholism.
When you quit drinking, your body starts the process of recovery. Your body has to repair all of the damage that was done. When it's in "repair mode" it takes times and energy. You're feeling drowsy because your body is focusing on repair, which will leave you feeling tired.. I know it annoying but think of it as a very positive thing that your body is doing.

Congratulations on the week.
We all have days where we'd like to bury our head in the sand. I find reacting to bad situations in a positive way changes the 'feel' of the problem. It doesn't always make the problem better -just how I think about it.
The more sober time you have the easier the handling of the situations become. Keep on swimming.
