OT - Haitian Creole proverbs

Li pale franse.
He speaks French. (and so likely is deceiving you; this comes from when Haiti was still a French colony)

Here is a quote, that I'm adding -

"Faith is the bird that sings at day break when it is still dark"

I really like "People talk but don't act, God acts but doesn't talk".

Roaches and Chickens?

I don't understand the roaches and chicken quote. Could you please explain. Right now I am envisioning a roach and a chicken in a standoff!

I think it means that no matter who is right or wrong, the bigger animal wins.

Here is a saying that is similar:

"It is easier for a king to have a lie believed than a beggar to spread the truth"

That's the point. Proverbs can be like riddles: they make you think. It's not literally roaches versus chickens...

Whenever there are disagreements between two parties, justice will always be on the side of the stronger one of them.

Se nan chimen jennen yo kenbe chwal malen.
If you want to catch a wild horse, find a tight corral. Said about a person who usually escapes embarrassment but who will eventually fall into a more elaborate trap.

I like these! It's fun to read them out loud and look for the French. (Twompe!)
