What is your Sobriety Plan for the holidays?

The holidays are fast approaching and they seem to be a time that many newcomers get tripped up. I'm starting to hear about it in my meetings now too.

We plan who we visit, where we go, when we visit, what we do, what we buy.

Do you have a sobriety plan? What is it?

I plan not to drink, no matter what.

Since I've quit drinking, I've spent a lot of time trying to reforge the bonds with my family. I look forward to the holidays, to communicating with loved ones, and spreading the new found joy I've found in life.

I usually have time off around the holidays so I attend a few extra meetings just as a precaution.

Good question. It will be my first one sober in 20+ years.

I guess just keep doing what I'm doing and power through it.

??

Yeah. I got anxiety about the holidays my family are big drinkers. I am going to fight every urge and find mantras and a good support group. Going to fight this. I am competitive been trying to battle this like a fight I have to win. So many crazy thoughts. At work now going nuts at how many people are constantly making drink jokes and references. Part of me is like I will get the last laugh another part of me wants to hide in fear of being found out. Beating the holidays will and can be a great victory in my start to a sober life

My plan is to try to be there for others... as a son, a father, husband, brother, friend, boss, co-worker, fellow AA... whatever... to do for others and to try and think about what I can do to make the holidays more meaningful for all of us.

No one is perfect, least of all me.... and I have to make an effort, truth be told. But when I am able to put my own self aside, I am rewarded.

The question I would ask of all of you facing your first set of holidays sober...How can you make someone else's (anyone else's) Thanksgiving or Christmas or New Years happier? If you do that, it will be that much less you are thinking about drinking or not drinking... And you may get a smile in return.

Well, that's my plan anyway.
