How Al-Anon Works
How Al-Anon Works
I have a pretty incredible collection of books and literature from Al-Anon and Nar-Anon but this is a gem I picked up recently and I wish I'd picked it up LONG ago!
One of the most recommended books here on SR F&F is "Codependent No More" by Melody Beattie. And it's a dandy. After reading just the first few chapters of "How Al-Anon Works", it is right up there on my must read for newcomers! Although this is the forum for F&F of Substance Abusers, the dynamics are basically the same whether we are dealing with an alcoholic or an addict.
The first chapter described the dynamic between the A in a manner that made me pull out my trusty highlighter. It explained EXACTLY how it feels to love a person who is addicted/alcoholic. It absolutely hit the nail on the head. In addition, it goes on to explain HOW the program works. This was a huge mystery to me for a long time when I first started going to Alanon and Nar-anon and I had to try to figure a lot of it out for myself. I would have saved myself a lot of time (although that may not necessarily have been a good thing! lol) if I had just picked up this book years ago.
So.....for all you newcomers out there. This book is a gem and it's available on Amazon.

It is worth every penny.

As long as I've been in Al-Anon, I've never bought it. But I know it is considered to be comparable to AA's "Big Book."
I also know that it is available in hard cover or soft cover ($5).
Thanks. I think I'll shell some money out for it.

Well I had not heard of it (my home fellowship is CoDA) but it sounds worth reading and since I am about to order some books to take on vacation, it will go to the top of the list.
Thanks Kindeyes.
