Im at formal gig with free expensive booze

Ok I just need to vent. I am currently sitting at a table for an expensive fundraiser with rich people with tons of free booze infront of me. And beside me us my ex. and i have to perform. I have so much anxiety. It's day 6 for me...help.

Your posting on here was your first step in staying sober. Your second step is just to not drink!!! I'm so proud of you, I honestly don't know if I could do that. My biggest fears involves being offered/nearly force-fed free booze by the people I used to drink with who want me to still drink with them... and then performing in public, OMG. But you can do it. This is a huge test and you will pass. Stay strong!!!! You'll be my hero.

Stay strong , grab a soda , a San Pelegrino , their finest Orange Juice, or a Mocktail unlss that's a trigger.

You can do this and the event will be over sooner than you think....and you can always leave...I would if I felt I was not going to make it , and I have before at these kind of events at trade shows...

You can do it

To ease your anxiety/nerves about performing, could u sneak away and do some quick vigorous exercise? Like jumping jacks, punching the air, ir push ups. Anything to get some good endorphins and kinda take the edge off.

Sounds like a good opportunity to show your ex that you are not the person you used to be.

I like this. I recently had a dream where I WASN'T drinking in a restaurant/bar [I used to dream that I WAS drinking... I'm hoping this is a positive sign as it means a change in my sub-conscience?], and in the dream my ex walked into the restaurant... he and I used to drink a lot together, yet tell each other we wanted to stop, and judge each other for not stopping or the things we each did while drunk [it was clearly a dysfunctional relationship], and I was anxious in my dream to show him that I WASN'T drinking.

I know it might not be a very positive-sounding recommendation to make, but it's something that I discovered myself doing without thinking ...

There would almost always be at least one person who had too much to drink at such events, and I would inevitably notice him/her. And, for whatever screwed up reason I might have, knowing that I was not that guy - nor going to end up like that - made me feel better about not drinking.

For us, there is NO SUCH THING, as "free" booze, we will pay a much higher price for drinking it than any dollar amount.

It's much better to wake up FREE tomorrow, free of regret, hangover, shame, etc etc etc,

I am so glad you posted here.

awesome
