Hope and Inspiration

Today I heard a talk at my training to be a Peer support Specialist given by a man in recovery from a serious P(meth) and pot addiction, and infact he was one of NZ's largest manufacturers of P at 2 different times when he was busted and jailed.

His journey back to life was an amazing story, and it all started from inside jail.....where he heard the words of a recovering alcoholic that rocked his world! Made him sit up and start to believe he could do it.

He is now about to embark on a doctorate, provides peer support, lectures to providers of addiction and mental health services, sits on NGO's, gives direction to government, inspires youth to find other ways to live, volunteers many many hours to his fight to reduce harm from addictions. ALL THIS IN 6 SHORT YEARS!

I tell this , because he was a shining example of inspiration, showed that by someone, one person, believing that he had it within himself gave him the hope he needed to change his life!

We all have this within us. We can all be the best person we can be. I believe that every single person has the answers within themselves to beat their addictions, there really is hope for each and everyone of us.

Go ahead and be your own shining star!

Goes to show that when we use the words "high functioning" and "alcoholic" or "addict" in the same sentence we're being redundent!

Thanks for sharing this.

"Go ahead and be your own shining star!" <--I love this, especially because when we shine we can light the way for someone else too.
