open vs. closed aa meeting
Hello everyone,
I am on day 4 of my sobriety. So far for me what has really helped these past few days is SR and that I've been to 2 sa meetings. I would like to go to one on friday but I only have tome during the day and all that is available are closed meetings. Can you tell me what will be different. I don't want to be forced to talk. Please let me know exactly what to expect. Thank you in advance everyone!

Congratulations on 4 days sober.
Our closed meetings aren't much different than open ones.
I don't think you would be forced to talk. Sometimes we have
the group chairperson ask everyone to share. If I don't feel like it
I just say "glad to be here" and pass.

"Open" (to anyone) or "Closed"(for alcoholics only)
Congrats on 4 days! Going to AA is a great idea, helps me ALOT! You are never forced to talk. If you get called on or they are going around the room, just say "I am happy to be here and really just want to listen, or I have nothing to share", something like that. Don't worry!

OPEN meetings are for everyone. Including family, friends, children and even the medical community. The person or persons that do the talking do not care if their anonymity is protected or not.
CLOSED meetings are for those sharing the common problem. The people that talk during these meetings are concerned that their anonymity be protected outside of the meeting.
