Dreaming of Drinking
So today is my day 4. So far this week I have been to 2 aa meetings and have been on sr everyday - both are helping me amazingly! Last night though I had a dream that I got a caeser to drink (its a Canadian thing - a caesar might sound gross but it is actually an awesome drink and amazing hangover cure!!!)! Its basically a bloodymary but made with clamato juice instead of tomato and has a celery salt rim instead of reg salt. Anyway I was at some pub with friends and I wasn't thinking and ordered a caeser. I took a couple of sips and then after some time I realized I was drinking alcohol and had thrown away all my sober time. I got angry at myself and gave the drink back to the bartender because I wanted my sobriety. And that was my dream - isn't that weird!!! I guess even my sub-conscious wants sobriety...
Here is to day 4 and NOT drinking!!!!

Yeah, I've had a dream very similar to that and it kinda freaked me out (especially since I'm a really deep sleeper and I rarely remember my dreams or even that I've dreamed at all). It was kinda like yours except I was sitting on my dad's porch with him and he was drinking from a bottle of whiskey. Before I realized it, I had the bottle and was chugging it down until it was all gone. It was so realistic that I woke up thinking I could almost still taste it. Cue guilt, shame, remorse. Fortunately, that's the only time I've had a dream like that 'cause it really f'ed with my head for a day or two.

I have dreams like this too. Usually I will be somewhere where drinks are being served and I find one in my hand and throw it out in disgust and people try to tell me why it's ok to have just one and I have to explain why it's not. Other times I dream I can't find a way to get to an AA meeting and I have to go on these crazy journeys to get to one.
Not weird at all, it's quite common. I had a dream about 6 or 7 weeks into my sobriety that I drank. It scared me enough that I woke up gasping for air in a cold sweat. I shared my dream at an AA meeting that morning and 'drinking dreams' turned to the topic of conversation.
A fellow AA, who was addicted to crack, shared his most profound dream. It was a recurring dream in which he is in a room in an abandon house trying to use, and everytime he puts the pipe up to his mouth the walls in the room fall down and in the next room are familiar faces of other AA members from this particular meeting. Gave me the chills to hear him share it.
Anyway, nothing unusaul about your dream. Congrats on day 4.

Hi. In my prior attempts to stop drinking I had many dreams in which I was drinking. This time (Day 7 now) is the first time this hasn't happened yet, and in fact last night I had a dream that I WASN'T drinking! In my dream I was sitting in a restaurant with friends and a former love interest walked into the restaurant with his friends. When I was seeing this guy in real life we drank a LOT together and I think we fueled each other's addictions. In my dream I saw him out of the corner of my eye as he was seated as his table and I could tell he was looking at me. I had just asked for another water and the waiter hadn't brought it yet, and I wanted the waiter to hurry and bring my water so that my ex could see I was just drinking water. Isn't that weird?! Like I was proud of myself for changing and wanted my ex to know. I hope it means I am making positive changes and am resolute in my goals this time and that I don't even want to drink whereas before I really struggled with it. I worry, however, that it means I'm still doing it for the wrong reasons (what other people think)? I am unsure of the meaning of these dreams but I do know it's very common to drink about drinking while in recovery. Good luck to you.
I have had very similiar dreams... and even thought I was hung over when I woke up. The good news is that the longer you get sober the more your mind begins to aceept and your body heals. Your mind is so use to the reward sensation it gets from drinking it is a natural reaction. No biggie!!! Just your body dealing with it!

I remember having dreams after I quit smoking that I was having a cigarette in a casual type way and I woke up severely disappointed in myself until I realized that it was a dream. The dreams were few and far but I'm guessing they probably lasted at least two months. I'm curious if I'll have a dream about drinking alcohol, I'm pretty much expecting it so maybe it's waiting to catch me off-guard haha.
Congratulations on your 4th day!

Thats an amazing dream! When I first was reading the title of your post I was curious to read. I had dreams where I still continued my drinking and the outcome was always bad. I'd wake up relieved however that I was still in the safety of my parents home and still sober. Some joke it's okay to get drunk in your dream because its not real lol. I've been sober 2 months now and things are great! I congratulate you on starting recovery, it'll be hard at first and don't try to think of it as forever but as one day at a time. I use to live for the future picturing me getting a 1 year medallion in AA and I haven't reached that point yet. So keep at er and you can do it like all of us its easy and you'll come to realize that you love life more sober then drunk. I had to completely let go and know that I am an alcoholic and that one drink even if it was just one I'd go back out again and it'll be worse then before. Good luck again and welcome to SR where 2 months ago I myself was on SR everyday and all day and night for 4 days straight with little sleep lol.
Forward we go...side by side-Rest In Peace
