being sober rocks.

Well hello everybody, I am still around, now in my 8th month and my life really improved in every aspect.
I also learned how to handle difficult tasks. Just one example: this month my water heater broke leaving water in the basement, I got really sick with a cold and my dryer was not drying. So usually I would have hidden away in my misery and just drunk 1 bottle of wine after the other complaining about life. Instead, I went to the doc who diagnosed me with an allergy and gave me meds, Called a plumber to get the pressure valve exchanged on the water heater ($100) and because I am low on money read up on the internet how to take a dryer apart and fixed it. It took me a while but everybody I finished it. Now I have a dryer and water heater working and I am no longer feeling sick. I can even breath trough my nose again.
The old me would have just got drunk, complained and tried to hide away from the problem. I would have gone to a Laundromat to get my things dried, would have showered at the gym till the water heater was really broken and my allergies would have flared due to the drinking. I can only say staying sober definitely rocks.
P.S. and in between I was on the phone listening to my mother complainign about everyhting in the world, how bad everyhting is for her (she is still drinking)

For all the newcomers. Hang in there, it will get better!. And if I can do it you can do it too. I always failed or relapsed. And yes when I was new I always thought, this is almost impossible when I read psts like this. Now it is me posting.....

I am so impressed you went online and learned how to fix the dryer yourself. That is a take charge attitude! Congrats! It feels good to take care of business, doesn't it? For me it used to seem so terrifying, but it's getting better the more I work at it.

well I either had to trow the dryer out and buy a new one or try to save the old one. So there were two szenarios, I unscrew and open it up and i cannot put it back together in which case I have to buy a new one or I can fix it, seemed I can at least try to fix it. I was surprised myself how easy it was....... Just one screw at a time....
And since I do not drink anymore I have more time on my hands to do other things....

Thank you for the encouraging post.

I need to remember that drinking doesn't make anything easier and really just adds to the problem.

Isn't it awesome that we don't have to stick our heads in the sand when life comes knocking? Great job on 8 months! Can't wait to get there myself!

for all of you, if I can do it, so can you. I had no selfesteem when I started, felt like a comlete looser, always relapsing, feeling depressed. I hope I will never have to go back there. I lost over 70 pounds and my confidence gets higher every day.....
So remeber do not give up, keep on trying and one day it will just work......
