New here

I just flushed an entire handle of whiskey down the toilet because last night was one of my lowest moments. I am disgusted with myself over the lack of control I have with alcohol and a I need change. Alcohol is ruining my creativity, intelligence, body and mental state. I already have an OUI and last night I got into a physical altercation at a bar. I feel likes it's only a matter of time before I go to jail or hurt myself or others. I hoping that this site will help me stay sober. Reading the other posts has already make me realize that I am not alone and any advice for a guy trying to go straight is more than welcome.

Good for you for deciding to live a sober life.

What worked for me in the early days is changing my daily routines. Doing things at different times, driving home from work a different way, shop at different stores - these things helped me to break the habit, the compulsion.

Now you can't buy any more. No more wasting time, life, or you! Stick with us! We're stronger today than we were yesterday and you're one of us!

Write down all the negative things about your alcohol.

It all will change now! Welcome home!

Welcome to SR!

Dumping out booze was the most empowering & frightening feeling in the world. I hope you feel stronger because of it.

What are your plans to stay sober?

Welcome to the family. I've been living sober for 22 months now and nothing beats the 'high' I get when I wake up feeling good. And, as I've heard it said, "I've never woken up sober wishing I had drank the night before."

Good to hear you dump out the alcohol. I bet it was a really hard thing to do. I would have hard time dumping it out if I was drinking. Hope you take the next step and find a recovery program. It's hard to stay sober if you don't do anything about it when your sober.

Good job, Erock. You can definitely do this, and have a whole new life without poisoning yourself. It sounds like your drinking was becoming dangerous, so you're saving yourself alot of grief. Keep reading and posting - we're with you all the way.
