6 days sober :-)

Good evening and nice to meet you all. I happened to stumble across this site by accident but am happy I found it.

This is all new to me, having to make new friends that don't drink to avoid the temptation and learning how to have fun without alchohol involved. It seems everywhere you go there is alchohol.

How do you turn your head as if it doesn't exist?

xoxo, Sunshine

Welcome....

I found many new friends when I attended AA meetings..;
We do all sorts of fun and interesting things outside of meetings

I find it useful to have people who understand and support my goal of sobriety.

Hi sunshine1267

It gets easier. I don;t have to turn my head - I just had to accept that alcohol and I have a bad relationship and my life is immeasurably better without it

I had to lose a lot of drinking buddies who just wouldn't or couldn't understand - but I reconnected with a lot of old friends - and made some new ones.

You'll find a lot of support here - welcome to SR
D

Hi Sunshine! I have 15 days sober. It certainly is prevalent in our society. Two things help me at this point when I see alcohol on television (fortunately, I haven't been exposed to it elsewhere) 1) it is poison literally (they say if your liver could feel the first drink - you would never have the second! 2) I try and tell myself that it simply is not an option and I have done enough drinking to last a lifetime. I believe it takes time to appreciate fun activities again.

Alcohol was my solution.for a long time. It no longer works. I keep moving forward.

It gets easier, but in the beginning it's not easy.

Give it time!

Thanks so much for your reply's. I feel like I have to hybernate in my house just to avoid temptation. I have found an AA Group that I enjoy going to and the people are very warm. I seem to have a wall up these days to not let people in and am having a difficult time sharing. It's much easier to talk to people behind a computer.
