I've never been to rehab but I really believe anything you give 100% to in your recovery can only be a good thing....

maybe it's best to think of this as laying the foundations for your future life, Zorilla?

Just do your best

D

I am so happy for you that you get the opportunity to go to Rehab. Make the most of it, you will have time and resources to help get healthy and better. That is a real gift!
What a adventure you have ahead of you. I am very excited for you.

zorrila,
I know you're anxious about going and staying at a rehab facility. I was too, but it turned out to be the catalyst for my recovery. Everyone is different in what works for them, but focusing on the positives..like a good bed, three good meals a day, and round the clock medical care will help you appreciate the experience and hopefully give it your all. I think you are in a really good mindset and I'm hopeful for you! Prayers for your recovery and health!

It wont be as bad as you think. When I went in, I had no idea what to expect. A deep part of me had a very strong sense of relief because I knew I wouldn't be drinking or drugging. But I also had a ton of fear because it was something new and completely unknown (both going through a rehab and a real possibility of living sober.) Also, though I tried not to show it and be respectful, my ego was very large. My disease told me I was unique and better than my fellow patients, hah!

After a short time though I decided to maintain an open mind to everything about the experience. This is the best advice I can give to you. Keep an open mind and soak up everything you can.

I am a part of a hospitals and institutions meeting that goes back every week to the rehab I was a part of. And I've heard the rehab stay described perfectly the more I go back. The first half of your stay you cannot wait to leave and get the heck out of there! But the second half, as your release date comes closer, you don't want to leave because the reality of our situation hits us. We realize we eventually have to leave what's become a comfort zone of sorts.

My point is that I believe rehab is what you make of it. By keeping an open mind and learning all that you can you're setting yourself up for success in not only staying sober, but having a high quality sobriety

Best of luck to you!

I guess i realized if i didn't get help that i was going to end up killing myself.
I feel like i'm in survival mode;that's what i would call it.
I have to see something beneficial in everything no matter what or how painful it is.
where this idea came from is beyond me;i just thank god that it did.
Maybe I am crazy..Crazy sounds wonderful right now..

the description of rehab you've heard is perfect.

23yrs ago i was in a rehab and I didn't wait to get the hell out of there..i left..
i fear that i may panic this time too;that's why i have to tell myself even if i think this place sucks that it's still good..free food;medical care;a nice quiet peaceful bed to sleep in..

Do you have a strong desire to stay stopped?
Are you willing to follow their directions?

I wish you all the best in your recovery!

Yeah keep the positive reasons and the front of your mind. Remember too that you can learn something from anyone once you're in there.

If you haven't been in 23 years you may be surprised at how attitudes and information have changed regarding what you/we are going through. Don't put too much pressure on yourself. You are moving in the right direction friend

If you are willing to go to any lengths to stay stopped, you're ready to start your recovery.

I wish you all the best in rehab - stay strong and focused

You may meet people in there who will be a help and a part of your recovery when you leave.

I wouldnt rule anything out including hospitalization if nothing else was working. Some people have to dig deeper to find recovery, including myself.

I want to live sober and die sober. I also want to make the most of the rest of my life. There is no grey area here. It is a black and white choice.
