I attended 2 major drinking events

Friday and Saturday!!!

Friday I went to a Greek Festival with a girlfriend and our kids. The food was amazing. The dancing was amazing and there was a marketplace that went on for blocks and blocks where we enjoyed/purchased the wares and foods of the local Greek talents. Initially, I did notice the Greek names on the beer and wine bottles and experienced an odd awareness. The feeling was similar to looking over a ledge and wanting to jump or maybe not wanting to but just knowing that there's really nothing stopping you except your will to live...does that make sense? I want to jump to experience the rush of free falling without dying...I WILL NEVER TASTE GREEK BEER OR WINE?!?!??! Anyhoo, lots of drunks. Lots of drunks with their kids(walking around drunk with precious children in a crowds is not classy nor safe). I love dancing to the festive and sensual Greek music but omg there were plenty of folks committing embarrassing acts of inappropriate moves LOL! So glad that wasn't me! Pretty annoying when they serenade you with those moves trying to convince everyone else to dance! There was one point when my friend said she "really wanted" a beer. I told her to go get one but she never did. She seemed a little uptight or maybe I was feeling uptight? Tell ya what, I drove home from that festival sober with my precious little kid in tow. I will remember the memories we made that night.

Saturday, last night my husband and I attended a wedding. It was obvious that I offended some of the people who offered to buy me a drink when I said "no thank you". We were out till 5am! We danced and had a really good time. I know I didn't say anything or do anything obnoxious that I should feel embarrassed about. And I'm on 3 hours of sleep and feel just fine. I'm tired but I'll make it through the rest of my day and I'll hopefully be able to go to bed early. At one point my husband pulled me to the side and pointed to a gal and said "that chick was so rude to me!". I just laughed and told him she was probably just drunk and not to take it personal because she won't even remember him by tomorrow anyway. Again, so glad that wasn't me. Why would anyone put themselves in a position to make an ass of themselves at a sacred event? I felt honored that I was invited and acted accordingly. I just feel so good about that.

So, I got double whammy-ed this weekend. Major practice on being a sober person. I felt ready for it or I swear I would not have put myself in those situations. I feel refreshed. Thanks for letting me share.

Congratulation!

And some people think not drinking means no social life.

Like Suki says a big "Congratulations" to you! - it's great to have your description of a seriously social weekend: how you got through it so well and had such a good time. Socialising is my big worry ( I'm on Day 14 after many relapses). I had a little victory today by cooking Sunday lunch for a lot of people and staying sober throughout.
Thanks for posting: I'll be coming back to it for inspiration in the days to come
