New to this!
Hi,
I'm new to this forum and new to acknowledging that I have a problem.
I just hope to get some general hand-holding as I embark on attempt to stay off the booze. First day today so not feeling great but can't bear to carry on like I have been.

Welcome, it's my first day here too!
The first day is hard mate, but over time things get easier, happier and healthier. Speak to people, you are not alone and should not feel worried about venting your concerns with others. Chin, keep on smiling.

Thanks to everyone for their kind and welcoming comments.
Feeling a bit shaky at the moment but otherwise fine-ish...early hours/days!
This forum is invaluable for making you realise that you're not alone in your sneaky 'I'm not an alcoholic' ways. I hate myself for how I've let people down and relied on the contents of a bottle instead of other people.
Time to own up and clean up my act. I don't expect it to be easy though so all support much appreciated.

Welcome to Sober Recovery! Thank you for posting and sharing with us.
Of course we should all of course speak with our doctors and make sure they understand how much we were drinking and using and that we are stopping the Alcohol and drugs. Our doctor may have a specific medical regiment they will need us to follow when stopping drugs and alcohol. (of course I am not suggesting you have not already spoken with your Doctor but I felt that it was important enough to mention, just in case)
What I found helped me greatly was attending a support group daily in the beginning such as AA (that is my story)
There are so many meetings available at all hours of the day as well as phone meetings and of course on line meetings as well. I am not sure if you have ever gone but I really would suggest especially when your new to attend some in person groups as well as online.
I was taught to try out many different meetings and raise my hand and introduce myself as being new. I met so many amazing people who really helped me tremendously.
I am so happy and excited for you as you embark on your journey to living a sober life.
It really is a incredible journey and one that we actually remember since we are not in a black out or hung over all the time.
Thanks for letting me share!

Welcome Peony (same to you SideStep and ukdigger)!
Things are going to get better..... The first days seemed really long and and the insomnia was really annoying. I just tried to treat it like I had the flu - I spent a lot of time propped up in bed, reading/posting on this forum. Take it one day at a time - stay in the moment - and keep it simple.
You'll be so glad tomorrow that you didn't drink today. :ghug3

Thanks to everyone for the support. Got through 24 hours with intermittent sleep so a bit groggy this morning - but thankfully not from alcohol. No sweats or shaking.
I will sort out some AA meetings but I'm in a rural area of the UK so they're a bit thin on the ground.
I noticed in another thread that somebody mentioned that there are 250 meeting a day in Washington DC? I'm over there from mid week for a few days so might it be useful to seek one out? Even if it's my first time?
Thanks again to everyone.
