One Day At A Time
I am three days sober now. I had never really given AA a chance, but when i hit my own personal bottom i decided it was time. On Sunday I went to AA and quit cold turkey that day. I have had all the usual withdrawals, shakes, sweats, haven’t slept in three days, and brain fog. Lucky no DT's which surprises me after drinking a 30 pack a day for almost 3 years now. Anyways, so far i am impressed with AA, the people there have been nothing like i expected, many share the same stories or worse than i do. I am grateful to god as I know him and pray for another day of sobriety followed by another, and another and another, for the the rest of my life.

Thanks for your share, Myrane. It's beautiful to know AA works for you so far. As with anything, there will be problems, setbacks, personality clashes etc mixed in with the good stuff. You can change sponsors and home groups anytime. If you're ever in Moose Jaw, Sask. on a Sunday night, look up the Minto group. If I'm in town, I'll be there.
My sobriety date is November 27, 1988. Remember, I'm pulling for you. We're all in this together.

Welcome Myrane! Congratulations on day three! I strongly suggest seeing a doctor, as alcohol withdrawal can be dangerous. Like you, I am new to AA as well and I love it! I have 20 days sober today and AA has helped me get through some very tough times. The people there are just like me and it helps knowing that I am not alone! I always feel good after a meeting. Keep up the good work and keep posting here for extra support. You are not alone!!
On October 12, 1991 I did the same thing .... called AA and went to my first meeting. It was tough (I was detoxing from a magnum of wine/day) but the support of the people around me pulled me through. They said it would get better and they were right.
You have taken a very big action and I heartily congratulate you!! Please let us know how it's going.

Pleased to meet you, myrane! I remember after I got through day 3 I felt much better. The fog lifted. Glad to see you've had a positive experience with AA.
(Thought I was the only one who could down a 30 pack in a day - can't believe I thought nothing of it. )

Welcome to SR!
I'm so glad you quit, but please go to a doctor soon. Withdrawals can strike suddenly and even several days after you've stopped. It would really be a shame to lose your life in an attempt to save yourself from addiction.
Congratulations on 3 days though!

Day 4
Made it to day 4 still didnt sleep much but alot of the shakes are going away. I did see my doctor before i started this and he gave me some xanax to take if the shakes got unbearable and told me to go to the hospital if they did. I havent felt bad enough yet to take one, cause i dont want to go from booze to benzos. Got my meeting in 3 hours and looking forward to it, trying to think about anything but drinking.
