What should I do?

My husband came home drunk tonight. This is a culmination of years of drinking. Where do I start to get him help?

Is there anyone out there who can help me? I have been through a 12 step program, AO, so I understand the 12 steps. I am at a turning point with my husband and I could really use some advice.

Hello WW, and welcome to the recovery forums.

I'm guessing that you've already told your husband how you feel about his drinking. If you're already familiar with 12 step programs, then you know the first step. For us it reads "We admitted that we were powerless over the alcoholic, that our lives had become unmanageable." Until your husband is ready to get help himself, your efforts are likely to be futile. I would encourage you to find and alanon group in your area or at least to read some of the literature.

However, I know what it is to want to try anything and everything before conceding to powerlessness. You can find some of the information you want using these links.

Below is a link to a government website with a recovery facility locator.

This link will give information about planned interventions.

Whatever you try to do for him, please find some kind of support for yourself. I hope you will keep posting here. You are not alone.

Hugs,
Smoke

Welcome to Sober Recovery WW, good to see you. Smoke has given some good suggestions - re getting help for yourself. Hopefully, as you get help for you, it just might tempt your hubby into doing likewise.

Stick around this site - it will be of great help for you.
