Unhappy Day 2

Hello. I came across this site after searching for how long alcohol withdraw symptoms last..

Boy I hope not long. It is hard to feel like this when I have 3 kids,2 dogs and a husband!! I am shaking and sweating. I slept ok last night which was a surprise to me after all that I read about the subject.I am trying to pretend that it is all in my head and I can usually do that with no problem as far as other things are concerned. It isn't working with this. I didn't drink during all 3 pregnancy's so why don't I remember getting any shakes and sweats then? Maybe because I was busy worrying about more important things....????

Anyways. I have been drinking since the age of 12 or so. The last 6 or 7 years I have been drinking about 15-20 shots of vodka everyday. I dont start until 4 four or five in the evening. I go to work. I take care of the house and children. I just feel like it is not good for me anymore. It causes lots of fights with my husband. I feel like crap the next day. It seems brain cells are getting lost...HAHAHHA....

Anyways. Thanks for listening. It got my mind off the shaking, sweating and irritability for a few minutes at least! I also feel like my stomach is turning inside out. It is aching and I feel like puking but I can't. Gross huh? Oh yeah and my heart feels like it is beating a million times a second too. I hope I will be okay. My kids need me and I can't go away to a detox hospital.

Thanks. TTYL !

Have you talked to your doctor? Withdrawal can be very dangerous and even deadly. Don't hesitate to call your doctor or go to the ER if things get bad. It is very serious and the ER people treat it as such. It is not an over reaction.
Congrats on your first two days of sobriety!!!! And welcome to the forums. It's a hard road but worth it. I am only 2 months in but I wouldn't trade it for anything.

Welcome to SR erinfair

I had similar symptoms while detoxing.
If you are concerned, please see your doctor. Detoxing can be very dangerous.

Welcome to SR, erinfair! Please don't hesitate to get medical help—withdrawal experiences vary significantly from person to person, but it can be dangerous, leading to seizures and other serious problems.

On a positive note, you've found a great place to get support through your withdrawal and beyond. SR has been a tremendous help to me. I couldn't imagine life without the drink—now I can't imagine ever drinking again. Life is infinitely better without alcohol—who knew?

Hi erinfair! I agree, it would be best to have a dr. check you out if possible. (My blood pressure spiked dangerously.)

What you're feeling is exactly what I felt. As you've heard, 'alcoholism is a progressive disease' - and you are probably deeper into your addiction than you were when you were pregnant. It will all pass, though - and you never have to feel this way again. For me it was about 3 days & then I started to mend. It's a great idea to come here and talk about it - I did the same thing and it got me through a horrible time. I was among friends, and people who really understood. Let us know how it's going.

Welcome erinfair - I'm glad you're reaching out for support - this is a great place to get it.

I agree with the others about getting medical help, considering how much you've been drinking. Here's a link that describes what some of our members went through:http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...at-we-did.html

We all know what it's like when alcohol isn't "fun" anymore. You can do this!

That's a hefty dose to CT from. Don't hesitate to get medical attention. Alcohol detox can be lethal!

Welcome and keep posting! I also have 3 children. A lot easier to handle sober!

Welcome to SR!

It gets better! The first week was the worst for me, physically. Emotions took a lot longer to start healing though.

It's totally worth it. Keep it up you're doing great!

Do you have a 24-hour medical line that you can call? Like a Nurse-on-Call number? You may need a mild tranquilizer to slow your heart rate and/or blood pressure.

I'm also on Day 2, and although I'm not experiencing physical withdrawal symptoms, the emotional side has been difficult. I think we're both tougher than what we're going through at the moment, and we'll be able to battle through these initial hurdles.
