Just had to share - things can improve with time

So I get this email from my former best friend from grades 7-12 - yes, that was a really, really long time ago.

My high school reunion is this summer, they have only just now informed me of the date in early August (next month) and I'm waaaaaaay out of state here in late July (um, ever heard of advanced purchase tickets, people?)

I pop on over to the reunion website to see what I'm gonna miss, and here are some of the scheduled offerings (these are the actual titles of the events):
"Triple F bomb party"
"1st ever Hangover Classic"
Um. Nope. Not interested.

I'll save my money, on the last minute airfares, and be still and in peace!

I'm quite very content with where I am, right now. And don't miss that part of the past.

Just sayin'

Lovely.

Although with events like that, is it any surprise that it was extremely late notice?

Now you can feel even more serene in your decision to not attend.

LOL, well I guess if hangovers is all you know...

One of the great things about growing up is you can leave the past behind, and say you're DONE with it. As an adult, you get to choose how you conduct yourself, who you will hang around, what you accept in life and in other people's behaviors toward you.

One of the greatest things about SR is I come here daily, to further grow up.

Thank you everyone, for this gift. Today, I feel gratitude.

I know where you are coming from. I have no desire to be around anything like that any more.

Your friend,

This year was the first year I ever attended an alumni banquet for my high school, and it was our 35th. The night before, they had an informal gathering at a classmate's home in the country...a kegger. This has been standard fare for every gathering they have had over the years. No thanks.

Well ... although my friends (about a group of 8) who I am still in close continual contact with are AMAZING, our reunion events would more likely be titled:

Making A Ton of Money
Love My Complicated Job Title
Academic Degrees Up the Wazoo
(aka I'm still smarter than you even though I may be broke)
and
Hey, I'm bi-costal, way cool, politically correct and eco-friendly

nothing like knowing who you want to spend your time with!!

Buh... buh...

... your forgot the: "Look at what plastic surgery I've had and how hard I'm trying to look hot and decades younger than my actual age"

LOL!

BTW - this high school wasn't some small-town small-minded place - I had a graduating class with 14 valedictorians with 4.0 and on AP courses, tens of my graduating class went on to attend ivy league schools.
But drinking is everywhere, at every socio-economic level in our culture, and takes whatever hostages it can.

And keeps them, as long as they'll stay...

That's too bad.

Someone from my grad class has been arranging informal reunions every 5 or 10 years. At first, it was "what are you studying now", then "married? kids?", then it was "what are you doing now (jobs)?" and now it's "can't wait to retire!". But it doesn't feel like a competition, it just reflects our stage of life.

It's funny that this last one, was the best one. I cherish these reunions because I've moved away and it's just a great way to catch up. They are usually in a bar, but no one, and I really do mean no one, gets drunk. We're all too busy yakking! And yes, there are some AAs that come too. The warm glow lasts for days afterwards.

I'm forever grateful to the person that takes on the task of arranging this and getting in touch with everyone. 30% of the attendees are from out-of-town.
