The Turn

The speaker on Saturday talked about how alcohol was his best friend for 15 years - then it turned on him like a pack of wolves.

I could relate.

Did anyone here take longer than 15 years for the wolves to turn on her/him?

Kelly

It took me more than 45 years to realize the wolves had turned on me long ago. I just figured getting bit on the ass constantly was part of life.

11 years for me, although they had been gnawing at the seat of my pants for a good number of years I reckon before I felt them bite!

Great post.

Probably about 30 for me too! Quit at 45 and just celebrated 2 years. I say, bite them back!

While my bottom was fairly recent and not as deep as many, having chosen sobriety and looking back, I realized I wasted a lot of time and many many opportunities.

Ie., Drinking at a business party, while not destroying anything, I certainly failed at expanding useful business contacts and gaining the trust required to advance down the road!

Wasted time is more subtle than bad times, but the damage just as real. While not destroying, nothing grew either. (I am not saying my drinking did NOT destroy anything. It did!)

Like Fitz I think I accepted the crazy way my life was as the natural order of things.
I realised things had turned after 10 years...it took me another 10 to stop.

I'm right there with Jennie. Exactly 15 years and I'm 34. I guess the college like partying stops here.

Every time I hear about people going 20, 30, 40 years drinking, I really just cannot fathom it. I never would have made it that long, personally.

11 years here, though I guess the real problems started about 5 years ago, that's when I started picking up in the mornings, not everyday but after that just became more and more until I stopped. Thought alcohol was my best friend for a long time too, how wrong I was
