Last night I watched a film, so what?

Last night I watched a film, it was Sherlock Holmes with Jude Law and Robert Downey Jnr. Whats so special about that I hear you say?

It's something I was able to do:

1. Without a drink in my hand
2. Watch with both eyes open, whereas before I would see 2 screens and have to cover one eye!!!
3. Follow the story line!
4. Be lucid enough to laugh at the jokes and feel my body tense at the more intense parts
5. Not drift in and out of dozing stupor
6. GET TO THE END AND SEE THE CREDITS ROLL UP
7. Wake up the next morning and remember it!

Sound familiar? The most simple of pleasures, watching a film, was available to me because I was SOBER!

Day 7.

Hi Rose. Congratulations on one week. Sounds all too failure. I would also watch programs/movies in cyclops mode knowing full well I would probably not remember them in the morning. So sad. I don't spend too much time in front of a TV these days but when I do, I usually end up coming across something that seems strangely failure and at the same time completely foreign.

Keep up the good work and keep enjoying the little pleasures that sobriety brings. I am amazed almost on a daily basis by some of the little things I am able to enjoy/accomplish/remember. I think most of the world would probably laugh at me for my little amusements . . . anyway enjoy your films.

I hear you on this one! I missed so many move endings... And countless times I suggested movies that my boyfriend says "we saw that" and I totally didn't remember because I was smashed!

Congrats on day 7!!

I could always remember a movie up to a certain point. The next day, I was always fast forwarding to catch the ending again.

Oh, yes - I relate! I remember renting a DVD & waking up the next day thinking - gee, I never watched that movie. Then I'd find the movie in it's envelope, ready to be mailed back. Sometimes if I thought really hard I'd remember little bits of it - but what a waste. Why did we think we needed to be numb to enhance watching a movie? I remember actually thinking how dull movie watching would be without liquor. Talk about dull - not even remembering you watched something?!

Same with reading - I stopped it all together for years. Would fall asleep (aka pass out) & the book would drop to the floor - I'd read pages of it, but didn't retain a thing. It's so good to enjoy books and movies again.

Thank you Englishrose for a great reminder of what we used to be like - and congrats on your 7 days!

Like Reset said and we discussed it on another thread awhile back.

I can go through my entire DVD collection and watch them all again for the first time.
