Truth time for Alkies - Time Travellers
I swear - no-one MANIPULATES their time, manages their time, like true alcoholics, 100% alcoholics.
We plan for our spouses to CONVENIENTLY have the children on a Saturday morning, so we can pleasantly recover from our hangovers at the grocery store, or the spa, or the hairdressers, or the golf driving range, or the golf course....the scenarios are ABSOLUTELY ENDLESS.
We work the Advantage of Time, and Space - to get our substance, where, and when, so desired.
But...it's a lot of work and energy, and anxiety, everyone agree?
Thank God for my 3 months sober - next Tuesday.

Absolutely Kelly. Like I've heard from a lot of people: If you put even half the time and energy into recovery that you put into your addiction, you'll make it. Congrats on three months. That's a wonderful achievement.

The wasted time thinking about drinking, drinking, hungover and thinking about drinking some more or heck why think about it the next AM just drink again, to ease the pain. My entire life was consumed with drinking. It takes much manipulation and couch time to remain an active alcoholic. Our society is such a time/ money one. I am bankrupt on the amonunt of time devoted to drinking. I have a lot of sober time to do, before I will break even. Thank God the sober time is not a physically or emotionally painful. Planning nights of drinking based on what work I have on the next day...am I having meetings at my desk and will anyone be getting close enough to me to smell it on my breath?
It was often a military operation.

Congrats on 3 months! I remember 90 days being my first tangible goal on my present journey.
Yeah, lots of time wasted on drinking. Another problem with passing out every night is I never got enough sleep. It's really one of (many) things I relish about sobriety, a good night's sleep. No wonder I was so exhausted all the time!

It became a much bigger job than my job. Staying drunk and somewhat functional for an extended period of time was 10 times harder than staying sober.
It's amazing how much time you have and how much you can accomplish when you are always sober. I really can't believe I lived that way for so long. What a waste of life.

Congratulations on 3 months!
You are right, the time and effort going into planning and then recovering from drinking is huge.
Add to that the money spent on booze and the cost to our employer's in terms of our lost productivity and imagine the financial cost.

Congrats on three months! And yes, addicts are awesome at manipulating time and space, and everything else. We are also great at moving mountains, so to speak, to get our DOC or whatever else we want. The best part about addiction is recovering and learning that anything is possible with perseverence and determination.

Congratulations KellyEurope and Newwings on 3 months. I have 3 months also (DOS: april 14). I usually post in the thread "Class June 2011", because it was in june when I joined this web.
How do you feel with 3 months? I am feeling OK, almost no cravings. Obviously, much better than before. Now I am quitting cigarettes and that sucks, but anyway I am OK.

The worse for me ..was waking up ..looking at the clock trying to figure
out if it was day or night.... Yes I was a blackout drinker ..time escaped my notice often....
Heck I have trouble remembering what happened when during the last 5 years I drank.
