I feel great during the week exercise alot work hard but once i start drinking i keep going all the time ..neadless to say this is messing up my life as i keep taking time off work due to it

Any advise would be greatly appreaciated as this needs to stop as of now

Would you describe yourself as a binge drinker? I actually was a binge drinker too. I could not drink for any period of time, but once I started I could not stop. If it had only been a month for me, it would have been fine, but it became more often--two or three times a week. Do you think your drinking was becoming more often?

Hi Rixter

Welcome

I'm afraid there are no tricks to learn control, as far as I'm concerned.

The only advice I can give to someone who drank like I did - once they start they can't stop - is to not start drinking.

It took me twenty years to realise that simple truth.

I know the temptation is to say 'it's only once a month', but in my experience it's not actually about how often you drink - it's about what happens to you when you do.

In all of my drugging history I been every type of addict I know of, Binge, dependent, real alcoholic, whatnot.

Stopping all use became the best solution. Maybe give it a try for yourself. Being here at SR can help with that.

I describe myself as a binge drinker .... over the years my binges got closer and closer together and lasted for longer periods of time. The consequences became impossible to avoid any more.

Alcohol was affecting my life negatively and I couldn't stop on my own. I tried.

I eventually went to treatment .... twice, once an outpatient program, I stayed sober for 8 months then checked myself into an inpatient program for 30 days.

I learned I was an alcoholic.
I can't say that you are, only you can decide that.
I can tell you from my experience that my drinking got progressively worse.
It never got better.
I had periods of sobriety but couldn't stay stopped.
I finally decided to give AA a shot and so far, it's worked for me.
There are many ways to get and stay sober, AA isn't the only way but it's worked for many of us here. It's worth looking into if you can't stay stopped on your own.

I'm glad you found us and I wish you well in your journey.
Welcome!
