It's not time yet
I have a patient that will be 102 in August. On Friday, I was so sure that it was her time to go home to her God. I was surprised to see that she was still with us last night. I wasn't her nurse but I came in to tell her goodbye. I grabbed her hand and kissed it. She asked me why she couldn't get up. I said honey, it's time to rest. She frequently prays asking God why he has forgotten her. He has not forgotten her. My mother coded 10 times. They put her on a ventilator. They didn't expect her to live but she lived for 6 months. She asked why was she still alive. I said "momma, it's not your time. God has something for you to do. My intentions are not to depress or sadden by my story. I just wanted to tell you what gives me strength and hope. My days are numbered. I am a hopeless drunk. But when I am here on this earth, I can take the hand of someone scared, lost, afraid, lonely, hopeless, and let them know that they give me hope, purpose, love. That is a beautiful thing. Love and strength to all today.
Ipnangel,
Thank you for sharing this story...sad-but beautiful...you have a true gift. I wanted to tell you that your days do not have to be numbered. You too can have sobriety one day at a time...hope you will let someone reach out their hand to you and that you let them help you....maybe AA?

lpnAngel, what a beautiful post, thank you!
Thank you for all you do taking care of others who are suffering from terrible, painful diseases that they never wanted to have in the first place.
You are suffering from a terrible, painful disease that YOU never wanted to have in the first place, too.
You deserve help every bit as much as those patients you are helping.
