Since Anvil mentioned Westies...puppy pics
Westies dig like no other terrier I've ever had, Anvil!
Bella is a "baggle" (beagle/basset mix). I call her my little lowrider!
Amber and I have decided Kenna's tongue is just a wee bit too long for her mouth. A good 75% of the time it's sticking out!

Bella the "baggle" looks just like my sweet angel Buttons (purebred beagle), same colouring, etc.
As for the Westies----cuteness personified........as for the hole.....double trouble!

Too fun... you can tell from the blurry tail whip that Bella is vicariously enjoying the digging experience. She is totally in the moment, in that picture.
Westies must have been bred as ratters or varmint hunters, originally, it would seem.

Yes, that's what they were bred for indeed! Bella has since decided to join in the digging, though not nearly as often!

SO TOTALLY CUTE BUT:
I WILL NOT HAVE ANOTHER TERRIER
I WILL NOT HAVE ANOTHER TERRIER
I WILL NOT HAVE ANOTHER TERRIER
despite how cute cute cute they are
I had a cairn terrier for 14 years and then went to the pound and asked for some sort of working/sporting mix - anything with a genetic predisposition to listening to their owner.
Have a lovely German Shepherd/ Rottie(?) mix who is ten times as obedient and doesn't dig
She doesn't however chase and kill the bugs or mice that wander by her like my cairn did. She was such a wonderful dog but so independent and stubborn.
