Langorous Evening Deck Drinks

Well, it's finally beautiful in Portland, Oregon. We are having dinner on the deck. Light fish, a corn salad, green salad. The natural accompaniment is white wine. And I do think the drink should matter.

What do you guys do about this? If I've really made an effort I want all of it to be lovely. What's in the glasses?

I've just bought ginger ale, diet dr. pepper, diet pepsi, and diet 7-up (see, I'm making an effort--what an arsenal of cans to hold!). But they're so typical.

Ideas?

What's so special about wine? It's expensive and enough of it will kill you.

It just seems appropriate. I wonder what people recommend for nice drinks as alternatives. That's all.

I am in Portland as well and enjoying the beautiful weather

Things that would go well with the weather are:
Mineral water with a sprig of mint in it, or a lemon wedge, or a lime wedge or both or just plain
Juice with a splash of 7-up
Ginger Ale
and many other things...

No reason to put any type of alcohol in them. Just my opinion though. I am also having dinner outside but never even thought about alcohol with it.

Found this site that you might find useful it has several good ideas: http://glutenfreecooking.about.com/o...mmerdrinks.htm also this one looks good: http://www.drinksmixer.com/cat/8/

Sorry didn't mean to sound crabby (I'm having one of those days). I like a cold sweet tea with about any meal, or if you want to break out the crystal a sparkling apple cider is another good choice.

a mineral water with a fruit twist goes with anything, I think.

Do be careful tho Missy - if you used to drink out on the deck, I really encourage you to mix things up...maybe don't drink anything some meals, drink out of a coffee mug - just little things like that I've found can help break the associations.

Dee is absolutely right, and making changes like that really helped me.

I love sparkling water.

Perrier with a few fresh raspberries or pitted cherries is good...there is a soda called "waist-watchers made with splenda, very good in the grapefruit...no fakey taste.

i like cranberry or pom juice with seltzer and a twist....and I love V-8 with 2 olives and a stalk of celery, dash of worshteshire, black cracked pepper...(the snack is in the drink).

It's not a cold drink, but i like to get some way nice and somewhat expensive tea... Like some nice oolong, or some silver needle white... Brewed just......right. In my favorite mug...

And like Dee was getting at, it doesn't have that strong association... Just not all that manly.... LOL.

Thanks guys. Some good ideas--I think I'll collect them and try a few.

Fandy: I love V-8 too. Even just tomato juice and ice...
