Day 93
Woohoo!!! 93 days, this is about the longest length of sober time I have had since I was like 13 or 14 years old. I have been feeling very anxious over the last few weeks, definitely craving a drink, not so much because I actually miss the feeling of being drunk (the last time I drank I felt like crap so it's not really the physical effect of alcohol that I crave anymore) but just wanting to fit in, to be "normal". I have always had this fear of standing out, of being an individual, and alcohol would lower my inhibitions so that I felt I could let the real me come out a little bit. Now I am seeing that I don't need alcohol to do that and it is a beautiful feeling.
The whole concept of actually trying to live one day at a time, which being sober requires me to do, is also new to me; something which during the emotional bottom I experienced prior to getting sober I had paid lip service too but never actually implemented. Now I am getting a taste for just enjoying today, trying not to regret the past too much or worry about the future too much, just being grateful for the good things and people in my life today.
I am really grateful for this forum, it has helped me stay sober over the last few weeks. I don't post a lot, but reading other people's stories and experiences has been really helpful for me, so thank you all.
