new day new life
:help
Hi
I can't do this anymore. I so sick of being sick and ashamed of myself. You would think at nearly 50 I'd know better, but no.
I just recently started drinking again after 5 years sober. My relationship broke up, He was a drinker and i was sick and tired of his drunk behaviour, then get this for weird, I moved out and start drinking. So for the last 6 months i've been getting wasted 3 or 4 times a week. Usually i'm at home so only my son has to see me but a couple of times i've been out and got so smashed - it's humiliating.
So getting up this morning with yet another hangover I decided - it's got to stop and it's going to stop. Finding this site is great because i can be on it at work and we help for everyone I wont buy that bottle on the way home.
It's a long road ahead but I got to take the first step.

Welcome aboard EDN
I really identify with waking up and not being able to live my old life one more day.
That was over 4 years ago. SR has helped me enormously.
You'll find a ton of support advice and ideas here too

Glad you're here! This forum has been a lifeline for me, after years of trying (unsuccessfully) to control/stop drinking on my own. It's a little scary at first, but just take it one day at a time and check in often. Sobriety is great!
I can empathize with the relapse after an extended time of sobriety. I had two years that I pissed away after feeling like I could return to "normal" drinking. I don't have any advice for you as I'm only on day two but I just want you to know that you're not alone in this struggle. Please keep checking in with us and reading the posts from others. I've found that reading about the improvements people see as they get more sober days under their belt really helps with those desires to drink.

We sound so much alike. I had 5 years of sobriety and started drinking again 5 years ago. Nip it in the bud now as I have gotten to a place where I never was before, drinking more than ever, bingeing, blackouts, falls, total humiliation and have now come back here to quit again. We know how wonderful sobriety is and I want that peace back in my life.
Let's do it together....I am on day 3 and am going to work so hard at it this time. I have been trying to quit for 3 years and the longest I have gone without AL is 4 months, it's now or never for me and I don't want to die before my time from an alcohol related illness.

Welcome everyday. Your story sounds very similar to mine. Take the first step and then another and another until you feel good about yourself once again. This board will be here to assist with your journey

Welcome to SR.
I think by being here you will have a better chance of reaching your sober goal than trying it on your own without support.

Thank you for the wonderful welcome and messages of support.
It's 9am here in Perth and i couldn't wait to get in to work to tell you all I woke up without a hangover. I did not buy that bottle on the way home. First day for 5 days I have not had a hangover and I slept like a log. Still feel exhausted, like I could sleep for a week. ITSMYTIME, we will do this together.
Thank you everyone for your support.

Same here. 10 years sober then started back 5 years ago. I missed out on my daughters life. We can't get it back but we can make new memories moving forward.
