Almost Normal

Ok, I'll never be normal but I can see it from here.

The gnawing agony of wanting a drink is starting to fade!

I don't care what my drunk friends are doing.

I just came back from dinner in a casino (cause that's all there is here) and I sat right next to the wine list without giving in. I didn't even want to.

I'm happy right now. I hope it keeps up.

That's really awesome! I remember at about 3 months realizing one day that being sober actually felt normal and the drinking life was the one that felt strange. I still had urges occasionally, and maybe always will, but I can tell right away that those thoughts of drinking aren't sane and will pass.

So glad you're noticing the changes - keep up the good work Missy!:day6

Wooohoooooo!!! Thats awesome! Yeah that craving will slowly go away a little everyday. At some point it will just be gone. Yeah sure it will pop in your mind from time to time, but be a memory of times past. GARBAGE TIMES!

hahahaha I'm laughing at myself a little right now... I'm speaking like I have 10 years sober or something lol. But in reality, I'm only on day 39

But in all fairness, I know what you mean. In my first few weeks of sobriety, staying away from the liquor isle at the store was a challenge. Now when I pass it, I don't even look twice. But if I do look twice, its more of a look to remember where I once was, and how awful I felt drinking. Then I run to the meat section and buy myself a FAT JUICY RIB-EYE STEAK! YUM!!!!!

And let me tell you! A nice $10 JUICY, SEASONED, MARINATED over night STEAK is far more satisfying then a polluted night with alcohol.

We've been eating steak a bit.

I have the advantage of living in a state in which liquor is not sold in grocery stores. So I just have to miss the wine and beer aisle. My actual problem is our friends down at karaoke. I went and didn't drink on Wednesday--pretty proud of that. We almost talked myself into going tonight, but we're going to stay in. Phwew.

What's interesting about that is that now that I'm sober I worry about driving down to the pub. That never used to occur to me.

Good job Missy!!! That is very inspirational, especially since I am a few weeks behind you in this journey.

This is my third Friday alcohol free, and I will admit that I have still been tempted to pour a glass of wine, but I haven't done it!!

Hope you have a great weekend.

Oh, you're not behind me. I was the relapse queen for a while. I'm finishing Day 5 this round but it feels different.

Well I am only on 14, and after this week I was very tempted. You should feel really good about passing on the wine list, I am still avoiding going out for a little while.

Tonight I played monopoly with the girls, and now that they are in bed I am reading, checking out SR, and sadly watching Mob Wives, it is amusing me.

We're watching Madmen. It's full of alcohol, but it's so out of line in most ways that it doesn't matter. I mean, I guess if I need to drink what they drink I also should wear the dresses.

Congratulations, MI7. May this roll you're on be the start of a sober snowball...a "soball" if you will.

Wow...simply, terrible.

Regrettable wordplay aside, I am truly happy for you.

Wow...Good for you Missy7! That would have been a hard situation for me to resist. I didn't trust myself around alcohol for a month at least. Awesome!! Keep up the good work.

Best Wishes To You!

in my state, you cannot buy alcohol, beer, wine except in a liquor store....which was right next to the most convenient grocery.

I had to change stores last year, just to be safe, i drove out of the way to a mall where the liquore store was at the opposite end of the grocery.

and I agree, a delicious rib-eye is much more satisfying....and probably has the same calorie content of 8-10 glasses of cabernet, with better nutritional value.

now i'mhungry!

Well, I think 8 - 10 drinks equals a steak in a few ways.

It's always so heartening for me to be on here and have others say just HOW MUCH we used to drink. I never wanted to admit it, but it was definitely true.

My last binge, and I'm on day six, included six gin and tonics, two shots of Patron, one show of Sambuca, and two or three glasses of wine (with dinner of course).

I see that as 1100 calories. And those gin and tonics were at a bar where we are treated very well,AND the bartended topped off the Patron cause the bottle was nearly empty. Oh, and that night, I was in bed at 11:00--cause I'm not drinking.

Good God.

On volume: I used to wonder if my vodka in the freezer was evaporating because there was no WAY I was thinking that much.

The thing about me, and some people in my physical life cannot stand it, is that I think a lot of things are funny. And that's funny. I got up in the morning after the last binge and there were cups of noodles all over the kitchen. Phil said he had gone out to feed the horse and I had started making noodles but when he got in I was in bed--dressed of course. It made me sad then, but now it's kinda funny.

But I have to tell you, waking up with my shirt on is one of the ugliest feelings I have ever experienced. It always just breaks my heart.

I hope it does not happen again--and it just might not.

(I don't do for sure--that's what happend when you are raised by raging alcoholics--you don't trust. Not even yourself.)

IDK how many calories G&Ts have in them (diet tonic water)? but I figured with the wine I was consuming about 1400-2000 empty sugar wine calories a DAY...or approximately 12,000-14 thousand, yes THOUSAND extra sugar calories per week....and it showed....my A1C levels kept creeping closer to type-2 diabetes...gee wonder why???

happy to say that since I remain mostly sober, (there have been slips, slops and some depressing incidents of fullblown alcohol pity parties)...i am much healthier and off of 3 meds i used to need.....and my depression is minimal....compared to that dread i used to feel with anxiety.

Congrats on the progress, Missy. I've been reading about your struggle for a few months now. Hours turn to days, days, to weeks - but it all happens by the moment. I love the idea of not HAVING to drink.

110 days for today and each is an adventure both good and bad. I'm finding that roller coaster looking more like an on-ramp. I'm still OCD as helll! Sunflower seeds, herbal tea and liquorice - buy stock now!

It's our first really nice weekend in the Pacific NW and I found my self lying on my back deck, soaking up the rays trying not to look like the cast of Twilight. Normally I'd have a beer in my hand - today, just a few cups of hot tea in the hot sun and wanting NOTHING more!
