Big day at AA
Big day at AA
It's been pretty difficult week for me...well, very difficult. Had a near case of the "F" its, etc. Spent a good amount of time talking with my sponsor, made two meetings yesterday after work just because I felt I was losing my connection. My sponsor told me I need to start service work that could help me and everyone else. Since he is the "Chair Coordinator" of the hall (5 meetings a day) he decided it was time that I start chairing meetings! He found the 8pm Thursday meeting and told me to come in tonight to co-chair so I could learn the process. During the break he gave me a key to the hall! That means more to me than even my 90 day coin! The guy I co-chaired with is leaving for vacation for a couple of weeks so his spot will need to be filled while he's gone.
There was also a very first timer tonight. I young guy. I could see his hands shake, sweating - normal withdrawal syndromes. Since 1st step was the obvious topic the "old timers" shared their wisdom and well rehearsed rap. Good stuff, but seems light years away from a newcomer. I shared that it was 108 days ago that I was sitting on the end of that same table, with the shakes, sweating, feeling like sh!t. During the break I talked with him a bit, reminded him that my number was in the "where and when" we passed around and encouraged him to give me a call, especially when things got really bad but mostly so I could share some of the things that helped me get through my 1st day, week, month, etc. After the meeting he thanked me and felt like he had a peer there (we're all peers, newcomers don't always know it). He saw me get the key and thought that was pretty cool too.
I feel back in the program. "Attraction, not promotion."
Such an amazing program - you receive when you give away.
-Peace and healing to all

Congratulations! I really needed to read that too. I've been feeling a bit disconnected myself...I'm working on doing 90 in 90...and got caught up in some petty drama which is occupying way too much space in my head. Your post reminded me there is a much bigger picture, and I need to keep moving forward. Thanks for sharing!
