alcoholism and problem drinking from a chemical and biological standpoint

does anyone have any resources, books, hyper links etc on this.

my last drink was 1.1.2011 and up until now i had been looking at it purely from a psychological/emotional point of view as in people drink due to physical cravings which don't really last that long [weeks] thereafter it is habitual due to poor psychological/emotional makeup.

i have started [for better or worse] reading the AA BB now and this is talking about a physical side. What alcohol does to the body i don't know other than it being bad for your heart, liver, a diuretic and toxic and gets u drunk i don't know.

My assumption had been all of the above are reversible in most but the most severe cases. I guess i was not a get up and drink sort of drinker so maybe i don't understand the damage alcohol can do physically. I hate the idea that it can do permanent damage

Can anyone help draw me into the intellectual truth on the physical effects of alcoholism and/or problem drinking? From a scientific chemical and biological point of view? Or direct me to a resource that may do this

Under the Influence: A Guide to the Myths and Realities of Alcoholism by James Robert Milam & Katherine Ketcham might also be a good book from the standpoint you're wanting to find out about Kevin.

We have excerpts here:
