Could use some advice
I am day 15 today. I would really like to start going to AA but it has to wait until next month. I lost my job 2 months ago. I recently started a full time and a part time to get caught up. I am behind on many bills and have just enough gas to get me back and forth to work. I have time as my job does not start until 245p. I do not have any friends (lost them due to booze) and no family near by so I cannot get a ride. Besides coming to this website and reading these posts daily, what can I do to keep myself strong until I am able to make a meeting? I am determined but we all know that alcohol can be a strong manipulator. I started reading the big book but it is not enough. Any advice would be appreciated.

Well, you've got internet access, so look up the telephone number of the meeting place that you intend to attend, call them and ask someone to provide you with rides until you can afford to do so yourself.
I know that is sounds like imposing, but its not. They may have volunteers to do so already. It's kind of like the deal with sponsoring someone, they're not just doing it to help you, but by giving it away it buys them a little "insurance" against that next drink.

This helped me with the mechanics of staying sober early on:

Hang in there and keep coming! Congrats on 15 days~!

Welcome and well done on your sober time....
You could see if there is an AA meeting close to your jobs and
erhaps combine the trip. You could call your local AA and ask for
a ride to and from.
If those suggestion don't work out for you....Google for on line AA
meetings....they are pretty much on the hour due to time zone differences...
You can find free AA Speakers tapes on line too. There is a sticky post in our
Alcoholism 12 step Support Forum with links.
Of course...please stay active with us...SR is a vital resource to my local
AA AA meetings and committments.

Make the call. they will come get you.
Going to meetings is therapeutic. and actually fun. I have more fun there then I ever did in bars. And as far as friends sober alcoholics make the best friends. You'll meet them there.

Thanks to all your responses. I am off to work now. Tonight when I get home, I will look and see if there is an AA close to my work and an hour before I have to go to work. Other wise, I will check online for those meetings until then. Looking forward to making new friends again. It's a lonely world sometimes. My own doing of coarse.
