Hi lindsay

welcome back

The first step for me out of the place you're obviously in was to put down the bottle. Nothing else will work until we do that, I think.

Then I had to find the right kind of support to keep the bottle out of my hand for good.

What have you tried so far, support wise?

D

The first thing is to put down the bottle and ask for help. Who you ask is up to you...it can be God, SR, AA, family or any other combination of things.

So talk to us....maybe we can help.

Realize that there is a better way too live. The hell that you are going through is temporary. It can get better.

Your screen name gives you the biggest clue as to what to do.
Finding the right path happens like this:

STEP ZERO:
"If you have decided you want what we have and are willing to go to any length to get it, then you are ready to take certain steps" (hint: find someone who has already found the path and follow them) "At some of these we balked, we thought we could find an easier softer way."
If you take STEP ZERO then find someone (sponsor) to help you take the twelve remaining. Twelve simple steps on the RIGHT PATH.

You can do this and there are many paths that you can follow to try to recover.

Stop drinking, get rid of any alcohol in the house and focus on getting through the rest of the day without drinking.

Distract yourself, change your routines, call a friend, hang out here at SR and do some reading. Know that you can do this!

I have spent nearly every day for the last two years thinking about killing myself. I have spent nearly every hour of every day the last few months thinking about killing myself. I have been hopeless and filled with despair and self-hatred and disgust and anxiety and shame and anger.....

Sunday night I hit bottom again and cried a million tears. Drove around desperately seeking an escape. Came back to where I knew I could never leave. Drank some more, quieted a bit, slept a fitful sleep.

I have "reasons" to drink. Lots of them. But the thing is? We all do. And "fighting problems with bigger problems," to quote Elliot Smith's Baby Britian, only adds to all of those bad feelings the "reasons" fill us with. It also throws in some helplessness, lethargy, confusion, misjudgement, hangover depression, ambivalence....... as a chaser.

I am so fresh and raw and new..... but I am on Day Four. I am feeling better. I am feeling better.

You can, too. We can help each other, No?

God Bless. Each and every one of us.

I hope you can find your path to serenity. And if you stop drinking, the path gets better and less dangerous.
