The Dipsomaniac's Cyclopaedia
My Family Believed:
* Beer on whiskey, mighty risky, whiskey on beer, in the clear
* Always lay down a foundation of food before you start drinking and you won't get drunk or have a hangover in the morning
* Red wine always gives you a hangover, and it best avoided
* Red wine is good for you, and you should drink it
* Vodka is undetectable on your breath
* A 16 oz. Budweiser is the only sure for a hangover
* Exercise will cure a hangover
* Hangovers can be cured
* Always stop drinking an hour or so before bed, and drink several glasses of water and take an aspiring before turning in
* You have to be in shape for partying, it's like a sport, and you have train every day. The reason you got a hangover or fell down drunk is that you weren't in practice
* Drinking beer isn't really drinking
* Unpasteurized "real" beer is food, and is much better for you than that swill in cans
* Hangovers are caused by the additives in the booze, not the alcohol
* All young people party, it's normal and nothing to worry about
I have a nephew who was, and is, outraged because he got a DWI. He had been careful to incorporate Red Bull into the night's drinking, and everyone knows Red Bull counteracts the effect of alcohol.
This is a list off the top of my head. I would love to hear if anyone else has similar beliefs or myths to contribute.

After a night of heavy drinking, eat something like a cheeseburger to act as a "soaker"; this will help divert the hangover.
I laughed at "Drinking beer isn't really drinking". In the 90's there was a guy I drank with that used to say "Beer is not alcohol; beer is a beverage." He'd get just as jacked up as the rest of us.
I love the Red Bull idea. I've had a few RBV's in my life (not by choice, mind you - it was necessary to keep going). Not once was I under the impression that the Red Bull was counteracting the vodka...makes me wonder what the Loco Four connoisseurs think about that product.
