Day 1

Hello Everyone,

I am restarting my recovery. I was sober for over 11 months before I slipped. Once I slipped it was 5 months before the day I decided to get back on track. That day is today.

Thank you both for the quick replies. I feel so ashamed after 11 months sober with AA, and then throwing it all away. Time to come home...

Hello LaFemme,

Thanks for asking, but nothing special happened to make me return to sobriety. My whole story is rather long, but in a nutshell I spent six months in jail (with work release) for a DUI. It was the first time I was ever in jail for anything. I am probably one of the most honest and considerate people you will ever meet, and before I was sentenced I attended AA meetings almost daily with every intention of never drinking again. The judge still saw it fit to sentence me to eight months (six months with good time). That ate at me the whole time I served and I made the mistake of going back to my old ways when I was released.

I had a 1 year waiting period before I was able to get an occupational driver's license. On Friday I had the required ignition interlock installed and on Tuesday I get my occupational license and can finally drive again. After 1 year of no driving, I want to get started on the correct path. Last night I became intoxicated again and that needs to stop.

This time...please get back to AA and get started on
your Step work.
That's when I felt a shift from shakey sobriety
into solid recovery..

Welcome....

Me too

It's my day one too. I haven't had a DUI because my husband and drinking partner always drives...but he got a DUI in December. We still owe the lawyer 1200 and he did a real good job. It amazes me that we still go out and drink and drive. The despair after the arrest was so deep--but not deep enough.

Good Job Hucko!

At least you know you can. For many they never had the break. It is enough that you did decide to get back to sobriety, right?

"Regret for time wasted can become a power for good in the time that remains, if we will only stop the waste and the idle, useless regretting." -- Arthur Brisbane
