1 week sober
1 week sober
Hey all, first post.
Background info: 20 yr old male, recently began experiencing withdrawal symptoms after drinking . . . a week ago I had 11 beers throughout the course of a day and have felt like crap the past week. . . mostly anxiety, impending doom sort of feelings and heart palpitations. Pretty weird it happened after just a day of drinking. But I guess it's my third time in about 4 months experiencing similar symptoms after drinking. So I've decided to quit. For good. Not worth feeling the way I had.
Feeling much better a week later, though I did feel pretty crappy yesterday.
I'm not really too worried about a relapse at this point because it's fresh in my mind how bad i'll feel when I drink. I'm a competitive person by nature and I'm taking it as a "You vs. You" sort of deal. I hate losing.
Hope everyone had a better week than I did!

Glad you're here, Chuck and congrats on your week sober!
My hangovers/withdrawals got worse over time (even when I had less to drink than normal). I started waking up in the middle of the night with the palpitations and sweats....... but having that anxiety all the next day was the worst I think.
Glad you've decided you don't want to live like that anymore. Lots of support here, so keep posting and reading!

Thanks guys, is it common to have brief little bouts of anxiety up to like 6 days after your last drink? I find at night and sometimes after I eat I get really anxious and feel like something bad is gonna happen (though it never does) It's gotten much better today though.
Anyways, I appreciate the support and I'm sure this lame anxiety will take it's course and fix itself in a couple of days. . . I've been taking plenty of vitamins and getting lots of exercise and I'm sure that helps.

Yes you are making a good choice to stop
and well done on your sober time...
Early sobriety does take a bit of time before
you get settled into a better mental place.

I noticed the anxiety starting to lift after about 4 days, but my nerves still felt raw. I remember driving to the store after about 6 or 7 days sober, and looking up to see a huge can of beer on a billboard right in front of my face. It felt like someone smacked me with a 2x4..... so yeah, the nerves take a while to settle down.
Just know it will get a little better with each day (be sure to get plenty of B vitamins - I take a B Complex in addition to my multi every day - we often have a deficiency and it helps a with the anxiety)

Yes, Chuck it is quite normal I think. I had bouts of strong anxiety during the night for awhile after I stopped drinking. Ironically, I began drinking to deal with anxiety, and ended up making the situation much worse. Hang in there and your anxiety will likely clear up. Good for you for deciding to live a sober life.
Haha ya. I remember thinking I felt better after the first couple days and now after 28 days I feel amazing and I am just starting to feel like the fog is lifting. Keep up the good work it only gets better.
