OT- The Tests came back...
... and it's apparently diabetes.
The doc had me do another test earlier this week
to verify the first so I can't really argue with that one.
BUT -
the good news is -
like recovery -
it's something that can be lived with.
I have been to diet school today
and threw out everything ...
lol
that has any taste.
Actually -
there's a two week window that I can try to get
things on the way down
and she wants to combat it
through diet and trigliceride and cholesterol control.
The triglicerides are through the roof
with the cholesterol right behind it
she says it's because of heredity
that some people can live with such high numbers
without keeling over.
(namely - mixed bloods are the most common)
ANYHOO -
About the swollen gland
she doesn't think it's a gland
but a very old infection
in the muscle itself
that the diabetic blood
has aggravated.
Shes' convinced that it's not a lymph node
but -
I've been put on some mega-nuclear antibiotic
that is like ... half a step down from chemotherapy
and if the infection is not gone in two weeks -
I'm off to a specialist.
And -
the clinic pays 100$# of the visit.
I don't know what that's all about
but I'm not above refusing it either.
So I have a whole new handful of pills -
Cholesterol lower-er
Trigliceride lower-er
Blood soap (antibiotic)
and a renewal of the stomach pills
for when the three upset my stomach.
And a house full (ish) of new food
no fat no cholesterol
natural
and probably no flavor.
SO!
I've not been to school all week, in fact -
just nauseated, feverish yada yada
and now we know WHY.
But I *DID* complete all my assignments
and turned them in
(via the department secretary printing them out for me)
so other than maybe losing
some brownie points for not being
'Present' in class
my grades are fine and that was my biggest worry.
I had several pm's asking me bout everything
I just love y'all.
You've no idea what reading your pm's did for me.
I'm only now feeling well enough in body head and heart
to post again.
:ghug3
I just haven't felt good enough to post much
and when I *did* write something
it sounded harsh to me
and I'd erase it.
So now I got this whole new diet
that is gonna test my good humor
in ways never before tested.

(((barb))) You've been in my thoughts and I hope you're able to get things leveled out. I had been meaning to drop you a PM to let you know one of your posts helped me resolve a karmic issue.
I'll continue to keep you in my thoughts and heart. Please do keep us posted on how treatment goes for you.
Much love,
Lenina

oh!
This morning I woke to a 'normal' Montana spring snowstorm.
This afternoon -
my landlord came knocking on my door.
A truck had smashed into my parked car
slid on the ice kind of thing.
Luckily -
he's an HONORABLE man
(and a fairly well known local businessman)
and left me his information
and wanted me to contact him right away.
Considering the caliber of some of the people
that live around here
I am very lucky indeed that it was HE who hit me
and not one of the drunks behind the building
or the druggies down the street.
So even my CAR has had a rough week.
but things work out.
things.
work.
out.

Oh barb I am in a similar boat, all week I felt weak, and had other symptoms that I thought it was just an upset stomach but no, its "irritable bowel syndrome" due to stress :/ my nerves have been suffering these last weeks and eventhough I have exercised my tension had not diminished... now I got normal medicines and homeopathic ones for at least 10 days..
Now I have all kinds of diet recommendations, but I am also lactose intolerant, and I also dislike red meat, and then I can't eat acid fruits, nor almonds, and WTF will I eat then?? tuna has been forbidden, too... so far I only got: apples, ginger, lettuce, whole wheat bread LOL
Time to be EXTRA caring with ourselves... BIG HUGS.... I also had a scary situation driving today, then when I was coming back home there was a huge accident, many police cars and I saw 3 ambulances.. and then I was just grateful I came back home complete and alive and able to get treatment for my aches...
PS naive introduced me to "liferegenerator" look him up in YouTube, his videos always improve my mood.

TC - we're like Jack Spratt and his old lady! LOL
I haven't even GRASPED the diet yet.
I've never NEVER done well with remembering what
a carbohydrate is from a saturated fat.

Hey, Barb,
Well, on the scale of things that COULD be wrong, diabetes may not be the best news, but there's worse stuff out there. I had a several-month "fling" as a diabetic during my second pregnancy. Gestational diabetes goes away as soon as you give birth, but I had to do the whole drill with the nutrition, blood testing, and insulin injections.
Actually, if you stay on top of it, the improvements in your diet, getting regular exercise, basically keeping everything in balance, will probably actually make you healthier. I used the diabetic food exchanges (which are a lot like the exchanges Weight Watchers uses) when I was trying to take off a lot of weight. You get the hang of it, ya know?
Hugs, this is something you can handle.

I am reading some recommendations and some pages say "do not eat fiber" and others say "eat fiber" -.-
We will feel better soon!!! chocolate is also forbidden.... but what hurts me is lemon.... in Mexico we use lots of lemon!!! tonight I had some chicken soup without lemon... NOT the same !!
And according to my dad, oatmel is food for horses

I know it's a big issue, and will take some adjustment. My older brother has diabetes and he has to monitor things pretty tightly...
Having said that, though, I am grateful to hear that it is not something more serious or of an advanced nature too far along to be remediated.
We were all praying for you!
I always feel better when I go on my bland food/ raw food cleanses.
It's a big change, but you might find some positive perks, Like more energy?
Thanks for the update, you're a great help for me, here at SR, Barb!

In 1989, IU was diagnosed diabetic.
It took me three years,
(I didn't do the pills)
but I lost a hundred pounds
and the diabetes went away.
I'm HOPING that can happen again.
That's the plan anyway.
It's just like AA, really -
today - I did well.
yesterday - I did well.
And that's as far as I take it.

(((Barb))) - so glad for the update. I've been bogged down in school (am still studying at 2a.m.) but you've been on my mind and in my prayers.
If you've done this before, you can do it again. Just don't do what dad did...was told he was "pre-diabetic", needed to lose weight and eat better...lost 20 pounds and celebrated by bringing home a dozen donuts, honey-buns and some other stuff which he proceeded to eat in no time....sigh.
I know diabetes isn't exactly fun, but I know a lot of people who manage it well, and I'd MUCH rather hear that than some type of cancer.
Glad the man who hit your car is a good guy. Seems like someone is watching over you
You have snow/ice, I'm sitting in front of the window and fan....wanna come back to GA?
Love, hugs, and prayers,
Amy

Guess this explains the nausea and all that you have been having.
Take care of you- there is a lot that you can do to treat this, and sometimes to get un-diabetic, symptom and blood wise, with diet and such, guess you know all that, tho. hoping for you to be feeling much better soon.
and, i dont mind whatever you wanna write, i love reading your stuff! you are always interesting, and smart. i am a fan, i guess
get all better, very soon.
hugs
chicory
Barb I'm so glad that it isn't more serious - I've been thinking about you all week and checked the old thread a few times to see if you'd swung by with news.
On the diet - you can do this!! It absolutely sucks but you'll feel so good after you've adjusted. I found out that I'm allergic to gluten and lactose last year and I was totally stumped. I live for bread and cheese. I got pissy. Then I got sad. Then I started getting creative and now I feel so much better.
The irony is that for all those years I stuffed my body with God knows what and it more or less put up with it - coming up on six years sober it turned up its nose ... at toasted cheese sandwiches and ice cream. Eventually, there will be nothing else to quit and I'll be eating air casserole :-)
Seriously though, you can do this and I'm hoping that the drugs start making you feel better instead of worse soon.
Hugs,
SL xoxoxox
