Rehab

My way isn't working. I am going to a private rehab clinic tomorrow for 21 days. I am actually looking forward to it and am so grateful I have this opportunity. Unsure if I will have web access. I have no idea what to expect.

It was a hard realization that "My way isn't working." That truly was the first step for me, and once I realized that, I was able to start looking for another way. I think I found it, and so far it's worked for over a year.

I have very good hopes for you, OG. I hope this rehab can help you find another way.

Sounds great, Ozgirl - and you have a good attitude about it - you didn't need to be dragged kicking & screaming. That'll mean an open mind, and whatever they have to offer, you'll soak it up.

Thoughts will be with you while you're gone - will be looking forward to hearing how it went when you get back. Better days are coming.

Ozgirl -

Good luck to you. I'm on my way to rehab as well, although it's taking me a while to get in. Hopefully we can compare notes on the other side.

Take care,
-Josh

Way to do Ozgirl. My old ways quit working too. Had to find a new solution.

Thanks for all the support guys! It helps

I'm on day 5 in here. Booked in for 21 days. I definetly need to be in here. I had quite bad cravings yesterday. I knew if I had the option to drink I would drink till I passed out, I definetly would not have just a couple. That is definetly not 'normal drinking' thinking. I'm glad I have net access I have been looking at SR everyday.

The rehab is very good. I did not need to detox as I wasn't drinking every day. My blood tests came back fine amazingly, so my addict voice of course said 'maybe you don't have a problem' I am still waiting for my sugar results though.

We have a couple of group therapy sessions each day and attend AA or NA meetings at night and a couple of sessions with a psychiatrist each week.

This is definetly a once-only deal. My coming here has resulted in a lot of upheaval in our lives. It is not a fancy clinic, more rundown, it is a private hospital but I still needed to pay $4000 to get in as my private health cover wasn't high enough. When I was making enquiries all the free rehabs had waiting lists and I was desperate. We couldn't really afford the money but at the same time we couldn't afford not to. My husband has also had to adjust his work to look after my 12 year old daughter (his step-daughter) and I had to tell my boss exactly where I was, but work seems supportive. He said 'your not an alcoholic' but I convinced him I was. It's amazing the act we can put on to hide our behaviour.

So I will plod along. I do miss my freedom but I know this is where I need to be for now. And I have now been moved into a category where I can leave to go out if I am with a responsible adult so i am going on a dinner date with my husband tonight.

Will keep posting.
