***15 Months Sober today: You can do it to(o)*** (Gotta love a typo like that in the subject...)
Hey everyone!
It's been a while since I have had any free time to post (as usual, yuk yuk), but I just wanted to take a quick moment and check in. So, trumpets, fanfare: today is 15 months sober for me! Woopwoop! SR has been a _huuuuge_ boost to me every step of the way, and I want to take time to say thank you!! I am still way beyond busy with full-time work and full-time school, so unfortunately I rarely can post anything these days, but I still read posts here almost daily. Although I barely get an opportunity to log in and post these days, still hearing from everyone is really, really comforting. So thank you!
15 months sober, in a nutshell: Here's how I see it. 15 months ago, I made the decision to quit spending my time and money (and emotions, and thoughts, and everything else) on alcohol. No more alcohol to poison my system. (A++ Bonus.) No more hangovers, no more waking up feeling like the _literal_ walking dead. (unexpectedly HUGE bonus.) No more late night kebabs and crappy food like that on a drink binge. (Diet bonus. I don't need a pizza at 1am. Really, I don't.) No more drunk dials, no more drunk texts. (Relationships bonus; +20 likability; really, this should be self-evident, this is a really bad idea.)
This list could go on forever. The bottom line is the really good, really empowering changes in myself and in my life started happening when I made the committed decision to stop wasting my time drinking and get my life on totally on track. I am not where I want to be yet, not by a good distance, but I am enjoying and relishing the challenges and happiness that life offers when you are okay and ready to receive them. The best days are now, and the best days are yet ahead. There is no looking back, no way, no how. And that's really all there is to it.
A wise person on these forums once said: "It isn't always easy, but it is always worth it." 'Nuff said.
Thanks!!!
