Hi
Paul, been drinking 12 years, last year 16-20 units per day, last week twice that.
Sober today and just come back from my first AA meeting. The people were incredible.
I hope this works this time. I don't think I'll survive if not.
Just wanted to say hi. Seems like a nice community here.

Hi Paul
I find you get out what you put in with recovery so give it all you've got - a lot of us have pulled ourselves back from the brink to lead happy full sober lives
You'll find a lot of support here too - welcome!

Wow, quick and lovely responses. Thanks all.
I'm currently drinking an orange juice and cooking some bacon cheeseburgers. It's the first time I've cooked in a while. Normally stumbling home with a takeaway I can't afford and don't eat by this time.

Can anyone here give me an idea of what to expect in terms of DTs? Shaking really badly yesterday, then had a bottle and half of wine in the evening. This morning was pretty bad again but seem to be feeling a bit better now.
Does it improve from here or get worse? I read somewhere that it's two or three days before the full withdrawal effects kick in. Is that the case?
Thanks.

Welcome! Glad you plan to see a doctor (and take yourself to the ER before then if things get worse).

I know it's hard to get help when we're feeling sick and/or embarrassed, but all of us need to reach out for help because our sobriety (our life) depends on it. Keep reading and posting - this is a wonderful place!:ghug3

Welcome to our recovery community..
This can be your last de tox...as long as you don't drink
I'm glad you went to AA....it's worked great for me for years.

This is crazy. Crazy. Day 2, 7:00pm, all I want is a drink. Feels like every nerve in my body is screaming out for a bottle of wine. I look round the forums and see people still struggling after three months, six months, ten years and this is what day 2 is like what the hell is happening where do you find the strength to keep this up if it stays like this?
Been fine all day. I knew this was coming. I was as prepared for it as I could be. Doctor gave me some sleepers but I know if I use them to get through this I'm just replacing one problem with another and when the sleepers run out I'll be even more likely to drink again.
Can't go to bed at 7pm. Would be crazy. Can't go out, will end up in a pub or a shop. Can't settle to anything, can't get into a movie, can't even type this properly.
This is insane.

Paul, I say you CAN go to be at 7 p.m...I have before and was glad the morning after. Hang in there...with each day that passes, we feel so much better. Lots of people are doing WAY better after just a couple of weeks and don't want to go back! Go to another AA meeting and also...join the MARCH2011 NEWBIES THREAD!!! Get some support...keep reading and coming back here!
